Age and Gender
Well, being on this forum, it sometimes seems that there are more women in the game of civ3 than playing it (or playing it and then coming to the forum). So, as a good social scientist, I will try to quantify the situation and see if really, this is a Y chormosome only place.
Then of course, is the issue of age. I have seen a few off-hand comments about age being a determinant in the fanboy, whinner debate, with youngesters (perhaps less likely to have played 1 or 2) being more fanboyish than old, grizzled players. Thus, I also add age to the poll.
I break the ages down into under 21, 21-35, 35-55, over 55 because they seem to be good indicators of were you might be in life (35-55 more likely to hold longer term jobs than 21-35, who might still be in some sort of education, and so forth).
Well, if anyone has any gender or age related theories on Civ3 fandom, playership, or anything of the sort, this is the thread to talk. After all, it is a general forum (right, Markos and Ming?)

Sadly, it looks like someone has already rendered this poll invalid...
As I see it now... there are 11 total replies... 11 guys, 1 gal...

We'll see
One screwup out there in the forums does not make that much of a difference if more people keep voting. Besides, the voting still seems to hold the idea true- there are few women out there.

Wait!
Why can't people just follow simple instructions asked in a nice way! 11 voters, 14 voters for age. Ha ha, very funny whomever did that- my assumption is one genius out there who decided to vote accross the the board, which is why the 4 extra votes (everyone technically should vote 2 times, age, gender). So, I would subtract 1 voter from each line, and keep that as the legitimate score. Well, it still looks like no women (fine, I know I am making an assumption by assuming that the idiot that decided to vote accross the board was male, but it would just be strange for the sole woman here to have done that. Besides, guys are more likely to do that sort of dumb thing more anyway).

I give up!
I make a post, just in time to see that some other joker has pulled the same stunt! Ask a simple question, get a lot of stupid answers! Well, if this is the sort of fanbase thia game has, good lord help us all, and i should simply move to the MOO3 forum, were people care and don't act like *sses.

I'm 51 years old, male
... and DO NOT play in the nude!
Now, back on topic,
I am "almost a fanboy."
It's a game, not a simulation. I have played plenty of wargame simulations (before computers), especially 1970-1990. Anyone ever play SPI's Campaign for North Africa?
The only substantial rant I have with Civ3 is that you always need numerical parity or superiority in combat units to destroy a defending stack in a single turn (1 battleship vs. a frigate and a caravel won't cut it).
I would prefer the option (not requirement) to continue attacking the SAME square as long it has defending units, and the attacking unit survives.

I dunno... I've relied pretty heavily on the ability of a number of "weak" units to "hold the fort" against a stronger opponent. I'd probably enjoy the ability to attack three spearmen with my cavalry in a single turn, but I'd also have to alter my defensive strategy quite a bit.

No need for details
To Special_Olympic and FNBrown:
No details have been asked (notice I said nothing about myself), which is exactly why I set it up in Poll form. As of now, there are about 5 extra votes, which leads me to believe that thankfully, since I last spewed my angry remarks, people have tried to stick with the topic and answer truthfully. I am currently not very surprised at all by the numbers.

actually that is more my fault. I only picked 1 option (age)
I had no idea you could pick more than one option. That is why I thought the options were silly. Looking at the total votes, and the number of votes for each option leads me to believe that yes in fact you can choose more than 1 circle. I didn't think apolyton polls allowed this.

Add this to the instructions:
CLICK ALL THAT APPLY!!!
And make it flash, alternating red and white. Add a little status bar scoller telling you what to do.
Because these folks think a square checkbox looks like a ROUND RADIO BUTTON! AHAHAHA!!! Sorry.

I just never knew you could do that. It would have made some polls I made in the past much more effective.
