Replay Mode
Kaak came up with this - and it might just eliminate cheating. Civ 3 must have a replay mode so the game can be viewed one turn at a time from every civ's perspective. Just sit back and watch the entire map and everyone move with speed control and the ability to zoom into any civ and analyze events...

to expand on this...It would be ideal to se it as a movie, with options to either see the entire map, or the map as it is discovered by all the civs concurrently.

Interesting idea - but how can it be implemented? For example, if on the replay, you wanted to to go into and city and check if their happiness is suspect, it would be that game info from every single turn has to be recorded by every single player. Wouldn't this would lead to [lots of] lag. If to counteract this problem, the replay on shows unit movements and size of cities, without the ability to check the actual cities, then there's really no point having the replay.

it would be nice to have a replay, and be able to see the development of the civs. maybe add a text box to see what cities produced or something

Right now in Civ II there is a cheat that can accidently be triggered by trying to bypass passwords I think. We had to ditch a diplo game because after bypassing someone's password to get a sub in, we discovered the entire map was showing and we could click on each other's cities and not only look inside, but change what was being produced. The replay mode could incorporate this bug maybe...

i don't see how it would create lots of lag, as every turn, the computer autosaves automatically. It would be simple enough just to expand the scope of the save file to incoporate everyone's moves...

I don't play multiplay civ2, so don't scream at me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the autosave only save local (ie your) information?
And as to:

to incoporate everyone's moves...

If the game is going to have 16+ civs like many people seem to want, wouldn't the game slow down heaps because all the details of each civ must be relayed to all the other civs?
Besides, the sheer info that would be generated over a full game would be huge - imagine how big the file could be!

no, autosave is a complete save of the game...And, i don't know how it was programmed, but the size of the file could be made minimal because the game doesn't fluctuate. it can predict what is going to happen the next turn, so it only needs to record the changes...arrghh...hard to explain i guess...

Well if it could be done (and it looks like it could), then the replay idea would be a really good idea!
