Have you gotten your money's worth?
Just checking, because there's a bunch of negativity floating around here.

Every morning I wake up and say to myself: "I won't answer any polls at Apolyton today".
But when I come here... and see all these weird polls... I can't help it...
Though I always miss the "Banana" option.

One vote for "not yet". Does that mean you haven't bought it yet, paid for it yet, or you're waiting for improvement? Keep in mind that the improvements could cost extra.

i've not yet gotten my money's worth. the stipulation is based on my assumption of certain additions, like a scenario editor and MP (which IMHO are likely to cost more). civ2 MGE had (has) immense replay value for me, i even played a game last week. assuming that civ3 gets MP and it's actually good, then i will have gotten my money's worth.

put another vote for "not yet."
I was disappointed with it, but it still has potential. If firaxis gets a decent editor out there, I think we'll see the mod community do some really amazing things.
when that happens, I'll change my vote to "yes, and then some".

Another 'not yet' vote. Eventually, it may be worth it.

$50 is 5 movies for me & the wife (w/o popcorn). Since most movies are stupid I prefer to play Civ. We have even played our own version of a hotseat game. (Don't think dirty!) Try it two chairs 1 computer, 2 minds controlling 1 civ. Definately worth the money.

Considering that I got it as a Christmas present, and am still waiting for a patch (or something) to fix the many problems that have been reported here before playing - I guess you could say that I got my money's worth!
Meantime, EU2 is a lot of fun.
Oh, and the CTP2 Creation Forum has been a lot busier. Just some disgruntled fans from civ3...

I got my money's worth. I played the game pretty much exclusively for about two months and never had any issue that stopped it from being fun for those two months.
I can't think of much else that I could buy for $35 that would keep my spare time filled from the beginning of November to the middle of January.
I've since started playing other games instead Civ3 and that's due to three factors not necessarily the game's fault:
1) burnout
2) I got my 1GHz computer working again which freed me to play something else (Max Payne, SoF, Shogun, etc.)
3) due to 1 and 2, I'm waiting for the next patch to see if it's going to be worth coming back to over other games. As it stands now, the game is close to SMAC territory for me - full of cool ideas but also full of too many limiting factors to make it worth playing.

Sorry, Bob. Maybe a mod will fix it, as Mark was nice enough to fix it before (thanks, Mark).
I hope not, though.

I have played the game for a grand total of about 5hrs. It just didn't have the appeal of the first two civs. The thing that made Civ2 so playable, even now, is the multiplayer option. That is sorely missing.
I find I am more interested in going down to the pub than staying in to play civ games. A sad indictment on me and the game.

I have no doubt I got my money's worth out of it.
I am not sure how many hours I played, but it would definately add up to great value, and then some.

I have gotten my moneys worth. But thats about it. Its not like I'd be willing to pay any more than I did for the game. Still I do enjoy it.

it was worth the 70 for one limited edition
the second limited edition was not worth it (any one want to buy it from me?? (it is still in its riginal packaging))
standard edition would evven have been more bang for the buck
it will get beetter (or should is only an 8.5 right now)

Yep. That includes the Strategy Guide, I assume.
Get rid of Culture Flipping (we all HATE it); stop the crazy corruption; and bring back scenario-building. . . FOR STARTERS.
Ever notice that those mindless apologists for Firaxis are the ones who are the least mature, the least interested in history and realism, and the most juvenile? I've noticed.
I guess Firaxis is trying to appeal to a more puerile, less sophisticated audience with this very flawed Civ III.
As for the voting, at this point, only 30 of 72 voters seem really happy with Civ III. That's is sad. Firaxis, you blew it.

I want to be excluded from that statement.
I think it needs a little tweaking (not all military units in this city get lost, 1 unit is lost for sure, next unit has chance of 25% of surving next has 50% chance next has 75% and all other units are sure to be found in the nearest city; besides I think that city should also lose 1/3 - 1/2 of its pop since its not only my soldiers that die; oh yeah and culture flipped cities could be reason to go to war w/o all the downsides when you would declare war within 20 turn period, afterall he just took a city of yours and he had the option to rebuff the rebels).

You guys paid up to $70? Damn, that's hard. I paid about $35 (translated from our currency) for the LE (the only edition that was sold here in Germany). And I paid it the first day the game came in the stores here (Nov 15th), so it wasn't some lowered price.
Definitely worth 35 Dollars. Surely has flaws, but worth the money.
PS (edited): I also wish to be excluded from the mentioned "Get rid of culture flipping (We all hate it)" statement.
As for the voting: Only 16 of 84 voters are really unhappy with the game.

I'll give you another way to read the results : only 57 % are really happy with the game. For a fansite, I consider it pretty low.

If you take the "Who pays for this stuff" people out, the result will be 65%. Still not very much, that's true, but better than your result. The statement "I did not pay for it" is not positive or negative about the game, but just shows that this person
- either did not buy and never play the game, in which case his opinion doesn't really count
- or plays with an illegal copy, in which case a yes or no to the original question would be also wrong
- or got the game as a gift, in which case another person paid for the game, and the answer should be either yes or no
I think this option should be taken out.

Well, I put it in because I'm interested in how many people pirate games. Hard core gamers have a reputaion as pirates and I was curious. Personally, I got the game as a gift, but answered as if I had paid.
The numbers are about what I expected. While the whiners are a sizable and vocal minority, they're still a minority. Why they feel the need to be here at all is still a mystery of human behavior worthy of a battery of psychiatrists.
