Correct starting position for standard map????
I have downloaded the Map mod which will correct civ starting position on gigantic map. This is very nice. 100 Thanks to those who created it.
However, I hate playing this game on a map that big with 16 Civs in. By the 100th turn, it will take about 2 years to finish 1 turn. It is simply unplayable.
Is there any such map mod for standard map with only 8 or less Civ?

Maybe not, but there might be a P3 or an Athlon in your future. I hope for your sake.
Am playing on a Duron 900 (actually, it's an underclocked Athlon, less heat). Never any problems with large games and AI turn length.
I know it sux for those with old hardware, but improvements in AI take horsepower. Or do we expect to run Big Blue on 486's?

i ahvce 1ghz athlon
512 ram, no worries on a 256x256 wrold map, no waiting , like before upgrade fro 100 to 500, but most civs were dead. the only annoyance was seeing hundreds of enemy horsemen being shot by infantry in cities. by the end i didnt bother warring anyone too strong: too boring

Playing with lots of AIs in Civ3 is naturally lengthy. Not because my PC cannot handle the complexity. That is also due to my inpatience.
To your surprise, My computer is Athlon MP w/ two 1.2ghz CPUs. And Radeon 8400 video card. And 1gig DDR. If Civ3 runs fast on your machines (by your definition of 'fast'), it surely runs a lot faster here.

Well, the crack map designers at Firaxis let this little preview slip. I am revealing it as a Poly exclusive!
