I used to love playing against the mongols. They were ruthless and aggressive opponents.
I also miss the irish because I liked to play them.

@ Assur: am some disappointed that u don't miss the Assyrians. One of the most importent Civs in History. OK they spoke a language that was 90% equal to Babylonian, for they got the same ancestors. But the similarity isn't more than between the Dutchs and Germans.
So they are whom I mostly miss.
Besides I miss the Hethitians, Phenicans, Nubians, Arabs, Turcs, Khmer, Coreans, the Scandinavians (Vics), Spaniards are a must, Serbs, some black-african Civs like atleast the Mali-Empire, Inca, Maya.
But why not all Civs, shouldn't be that difficult
@Polarkrake: U don't have to choose those. But other player just like them.

As long as this is a wish list, I have always been offended at the fact that the Republic of Texas has always been ignored.
While only for a short time, the great republic brought us such inumerable inventions as the....uh....well....oh, TEX-MEX! And we fought a long struggle against the oppresive Mexicans for a few years.... and uhhh....well, a Texas nation would just be cool!

Don't get me wrong. I think that Texas is one of the most beautyfull states of the US. Especialy because it unites very different but nice landscapes.
But history is something different. May be the american settlers felt anyhow oppressed, but not the mexican majority. Oppression started not until independence, when they became secondclass citizens. Texas didn't become independent because of the democratic opinion of a majority but since the technical hegemony of their guns.
But nevertheless I guess after bad times have been passed the "Hispanics" of that origin are glad to be on that side of the border. And today is what counts.
But history was different ,sorry

Umm... Well Vikings should definitely be there... Or why not just call them Swedes and everyone gets happy! Oh, and the mighty Canadians! Remember my Civ2 mod... Those were the days!
And, umm.. Jamaica!
No, seriously! Vikings should be there, as should the Celts, Spaniards, and some Arabic thingy as well! Also you should rename England to Great Britain to cover the Scots, Welsh and Irish... Maybe we don't need no Celts then...
All the great colonizing nations should be in there, missing is; Spain, Portugal and The Netherlands! And maybe some other I couldn't think of right now...
Oh, and also as stated before in another post or two Mongols!! They were kinda cute in Civ2... And a whola heck a lot of African and South American tribes!!!
That's my two cents....

Why shouldn't they? It's just a game, not the ultimate measuring stick of civilization. And there can NEVER, EVER be too many choices of who to play as. Who cares if some of them end up being carbon copies? And who cares if the game becomes unbalanced? You'd be able to pick all these things anyway.

As you can see from the topped threads, we already had a democratic election for the next batch of 16.
This leaves the following civs to be wished for:
Nice, the Hospitaliers, the Vatican, Madurodam, Harlem, the Mohicans, the Illuminati, and finally ... Microsoft.

Yeh, I also miss the Vikings. But I wouldn't make their special unit a ship (for obvious gameplay reasons). Rather, I would make it a 4/1/1 swordman who can make amphibious assaults.

the dutch should be able to rule civ3's mid games as they did in real-time, the dutch's golden age (17th century) were a time of world domination. They controled the seas, got themselves some nice Islands with enough spices and other luxeries to trade themselves to extreme wealth. the netherlands deserve a place in this game, because such a small country had been able to make such a difference i this world for allmost 100 turns.

For the Arabs things like this stay a problem. First it was just Arabia, then there was the Fatamid caliphate, (pherhaps something after that) then the Mameluke's caliphate.
My objections to Saracens is that the game will be too Age-of-Kingsy, the name does not refer to the current Arab situation and my dictionary refers to it as being 'old name for Arabs in Spain and northwest Africa.'

Simply another point of fact.
Yes the British did have the largest empire in terms of area
Yes the Mongols did have the largest empire in terms of contiguous land, but the mongols could capture one city and gain 10 square miles of terrain, the Romans, while never having the size of the Mongol empire, did have MANY more people under their control.

I miss the Mongols, Celts, and Carthaginians.
The game isn't the same without the militaristic hordes of Mongols. I always liked playing as the Celts and Carthaginians. They were quite unique and enjoyable civs, although they were not really big time historical civs like the Romans or the Chinese.

The Vikings, Spanish and Mongols are sorely missed.
For the Mongols were always the unstoppable civ that would always stab you in the back, but who expanded much faster than the Russians who, too had the same mentality.
The Vikings were an interesting civ for ferocity, but on earth maps, never lasted long because of their bad positiong.
The Spanish were one of the most interesting countries to play as. They always seemed to receive extra settlers (that may just be me) but I also loved colonizing America with the Spanish and making cities wiht names such as Ciudad Juarez, Mexico City, etc.
---
PS. I never really liked the celts
and the carthaginians seemed useless but were fun.
I hated the sioux, but they were interesting, for the same reason as the mongols
