Setting up IP Games XXXIV
I guess 4 pages is enough so it's time to start a new one.
Ming, please feel free to close the other one to avoid confusion.
We saw a lot of new people post in thread XXXIII. So much for CIV III killing CIVII MP. We had a few new people join in the fun and a few more that should join soon. On behalf of our group, I welcome you all, and encourage other lurkers to post.
I'll be at Ming's on Friday, and home Saturday. Available both nights.
RAH

Hey RAH I've finally played my very 1st Civ3 game. Did you figured out science rate? One turn it says 'Navigation in 7 turns', next turn 'Navigation in 2 turns',turn after...i have Navigation. Is this a bug? Anyway...do you like a game? I do. But I do hate when my key 2xwino city get itself turned by stronger culture blah blah.

The amount of beakers needed for a tech is dependent on if you are the first one researching it. If another civ has the tech already it requires less. (you'll also see something similar in how much gold it will take to get another civ to trade it) For more complete details, check out the CIVIII strat forum.
I have always played religious civs and pop-rush temples in all my new cities to get the culture cranking right away. As a result, none of my cities have ever opted out to another civ. The overall culture of your civ has considerable impact on this. There is a real good thread in the CIVIII forum that discusses what impacts conversions in more detail than you would ever want to read.
I've played a few games and am already sufficiently bored with it.
Deity level is extremely difficult due to the head start the AI gets, but it can be won. I'm kinda just waiting for the MP version now. It needs considerable work for it to be playable in MP, IMHO. We'll see, I think there is some good potential.
Rich
The games I did play were kinda fun.
BUT CIVII MP STILL ROCKS>

Can you imagine...
how long it will take to play a game of Civ 3 with four other people?
And people complain about Civ 2 taking too long !
Hopefully they will see the light and get back to their roots.
I will be lurking about on Friday and Saturday nights, hope to see somebody (ANYBODY!) there...

FF, yeah we'll see how long. They were talking about some type of modified simul. turns. We'll see. What time zone are you in and what are your available hours. we usually start around 7:30-8:00 US central time and play for about 5-6 hours. ICQ is best contact mode.
War4, getting to be quite the social butterfly on Fridays
I'll check for you anyway. It always worth checking on you since it's SOOOO much fun to have you in the game.

Hopefully I will be available at a reasonable time on Saturday if anybody that misses the early start is still looking for a game later.
And any of the new people that posted in the old thread should also post in this thread so we don't forget they are interested... since that other thread should be dropping fast soon

Friday night the wifey is out and not hassling me. Saturday night the wifey is back and my daughter has a 17th birthday party at the house. So I'll be on ICQ, count me in if there is an open chair.

Availability...
I am normally on most evenings, and on weekends throughout the day...
I'm on EST (GMT-5), so I can stay up a little late (It's a weekend!).
If I show up late, I have no problem to join in...
Always a good challenge.

Well, I got my game updated to the latest Mac patch, but unfortunately, ICQ has been less kind. Download? No problem. Install? No problem. Register? BIG problem. And their tech support has been worthless. Planning to scrub them off my system and start fresh tonight.
I was hoping to make my debut Saturday, but that looks doubtful now. Oh well, I've waited this long...
See you offline Friday, Ming? (If this cold doesn't take hold too hard...)

I have for quite a while now. And that was before the TFs.
But it's only logical that the beavers get more action then the ferrets.
Back to the topic.
I'll be around tonight

I'll be available as well, usual time.
Deity level isn't much difficult once I'd figured out how to catch up with AI expansion (2 Jaguar warriors - capture nearest AI capitol - rush build an archer in ex AI city - make peace - wait for AI to build next city - capture previous one - rush build an archer or two and so on.
What I don't understand is corruption and waste. Nothing helps. Not even courthouses or democracy. Besides my core cities all I can get from distant ones is one shield and one coin. Is that as it supposed to be on deity or this is a bug? I've tried everything but Forbidden palace because with one shield I have to wait 300 turns to build a damned thing in area where it could actually have its use.

At deity, you have to be a bit careful with that strat. The AI starts with a stack of warriors. (8, I believe and an extra settler) So depending on where they are when you declare war, they could be all over you, and 2 units defending aren't enough.

Fianlly!
Well, it took several hours and multiple downloads from ICQ and Apple, but I do believe I've done it!
-Jrabbit is at ICQ Number 150126521
Still don't know how it all fits together -- the game CD, the internet, ICQ, etc., so I guess I'll go hang with Ming and rah to get the basics.
Any how2 tips thrown my way gratefully accepted.

Tonight?
I'm going to try to join the late game tonight. Assume you'll be hosting, Ming. I'll try to get online around 10pm CST. You'll probably need to _patiently_ walk me through procedures, since this is all so new to me.
Will check this board as well as ICQ mail prior to launch.
Gosh, how exciting...

Just wanted to post a public thanks to Ming for the walk-through game last night. Patiently walked me through (multiple) start-up etc, and put up with a couple hours of fairly boring play while offering some much needed hints.
Appreciate it, Ming!
Shooting for a return next Saturday...

If you need more practice Jrabbit, and have an hour here or there during the week, I'd be happy to walk through a few starts with you also. Just ICQ me if I'm on.
