Do harbors give a resource connection or not?
Im playing on marlas world map. Im am the english. I own spain and north africa. All of my cities have harbors. I descided to go to war with the french, cause after all, there french. Before I did that my resources were going back and forth fine. I could build knights, and musketmen anywhere I wanted. So I declair war on the french and all of a sudden my resources get crapped. The harbors stop working. None if the harbors are blocked by french ships. Why cant I get any resources anywhere? Im gonna lose the damn war now cause the game is skrewing me over. UGH!

I could use some clarification on the blockade rule myself. If I understand it, you need an unblocked path between harbors, not just have the area around the harbors clear of enemy ships.

Let me buy you a drink sir! do you live anywhere near the city of Derby??
Anyway, There could be several reasons why your resources are gone. Are you sure the French didnt have a Mutual protection with some other scum like Germans??? If so they will have cancelled trade on declaration to war. Or perhaps you were trading with the French themselves??
Or, for trade to work there needs to be a visable sea route (at certain points in the game).. some squares will be sea, others will be ocean, if a row of the 'sea' squares are blocked by French Ships then you'll be cut off..

You don't have discovered Astronomy yet? If so, your trade path shall go unblocked (not through french territory) by coast tiles only.
You don't have discovered Navigaton or Magnetism yet? If so, your trade path shall go unblocked (not through french territory) by coast and sea tiles only.
Connections through ocean tiles work only after discovering Navigation or Magnetism.
So, depending what your state of science is, look, if there is a path connecting your harbors and not going through France.

You have to understand the different Squares Fatboy...
There is COAST,SEA and OCEAN .. it is possible that there was a coastal route to your desination...
Right click each square in the water and have a look at what kind of square it is (sea, coast or ocean)

Does your trade route go through French territorial waters? If the French cultural zone of control extends into the coast/sea and blocks off your trade route, that could be the problem that's cutting off your harbors. Trade cannot move through enemy territory.

Yeah but it just sounds wierd. Not exactly what you'd go around calling people on an everyday basis. I had the same reaction at first.

It has nothing to do with Astronomy really, although that obviously explains your problem. Your trade route can only follow Coastal squares, and since you're at war with the French, that trade route has become blocked somehow. If you weren't trading with the French themselves, then the path that goes to the other harbour you were trading with has been blocked. If the war were to suddenly end, you would find that you can trade again.
BTW, if part of your deal was an exchange of resources, losing your route now means that you are in default, and the other civ is not going to be pleased with that. And they have been known to go to war for less.

Sorry for being accurate, I just was trying to help. It won't happen again. I will try to be as inaccurate in the future as you are with your version of the word "Kraut".
But I think I can forgive you. You had to eat so much british beef during the last years, because nobody else does, and the result is obvious.

Why are you being such a racist jerk? Has history not shown you that this stupid nationalistic superiority you're exhibiting is a waste of time? Maybe one the American posters should rub your nose in the fact that your people got thier ass kicked in America. Whatever happened to your almighty empire eh?

So much for the European Union...
I need a clarification here--I understand that a route can be blocked, but does it require actual enemy ships doing the blocking, or is having the only viable route going though enemy territorial waters sufficient?

Physical ships (or ground units, on a land route) aren't needed to block trade. If you can't trace a valid route that doesn't pass through enemy territory (including unexplored territory or trade-embargo-ing countries you're at peace with), you can't trade.

It was a blatant racial slur, and I don't find that very funny. As long as those types of attitudes exist, then this world, and all the people in it, will continue to go at each others throats, and we'll continue to have war after war for no other reason than stupid national pride. Surely the English people must have learned something after what just happened in New York and Afghanistan. Or Yugoslavia. Is that the way we want to continue running this planet, or shall we put aside our differences and accept the fact that we're all on this bubble in space together?
