It doesn't coun't in the OT as it is mush easier to spam up the PC there, but many of the vets have posts counted from the OT. I purpose their PC should be reduced to reflect that.
The rules changed with the upgrade to vBB from UBB.

The idea is that this is a Civ site. If you want a postcount post on-topic. Funnily enough, it often seems especially the OT'ers are concerned about their postcount.

Why doesn't Markos hack vB and adds two post counts, one with OT posts included, and one wit only on topic posts (recounted)
Then we could get a % on topic value for each poster, and if that is less then 50% an alternate title system (lets call it OT-titles) would be used. (Or the titles in OT could be based on the OT posts (not including on topic posts)
That would make the OT-poster so happy...
Now when does Markos have the time for this?
Correct answer: Never

I say, custom avatars for all (or time specific), post count for none!.

That would be a great idea, but the alternative title system should really only used if the you have really less than 50% on-topic posts. Not two titles, that would mean for me on-topic: Prince, off-topic: Newbe

I think you should do something for a costum avatar, by the way if you just wait one year you get one.

Giving the OT a seperate post count would defeat the anti-spam diablement of the post count reason----> however it would be a nice feature

Custom avatars for all! Imagine what it would be like:
Birds would fly through perpetually blue skies, singing!
All over the world, soldiers would put down their weapons and embrace their former enemies!
It would be like heaven on earth!
Or maybe I'm just so happy to have survived the Ann Widdecombe visit to my college.

IMO, OT posts should count for something, even if its not as much as on topic.

I think the time has come where post counts should be abolished and replaced with a custom title system like many other bulletin boards do such as CGN or Counterglow. It really is a farce, and you can tell the mods care about it all too deeply as well.

Yes, without the fixed titles, the urge to spam will become much less. The current title system can always remain the default, and posters are already rather imaginatively using the location spot anyway, so that can´t be much of a problem.
But of course, we´d have to limit this custom title to those with at least 500 posts.

Judging from this thread its actually the on-topic people who care more about their post count
And stopping post count has really been a big success in cutting down OT posting....... ............ (NOT!)

A mod will move it to where it belongs, unless it is riduculous and/or spam filled, in which case they will close or delete it.

Everyone:
My impressions of people at Apolyton are generally based on the quality of their contributions, registration dates and lastly, "ranks"/post counts. There have been intelligent and witty "newbies" and slovenly "veterans." The opposite — as everyone knows — is also true. So the key word is: quality.
Write that down, my students, and you shall live long and prosper.

I feel that if MarkG takes away posts for bad behavior, then he should give posts for good behavior. There should be 10% post increases.

DarlinKell certainly has a point... I often feel a little intimidated by the ON-topic threads - sometimes they are packed full of those who seem to have somehow played Civ3 48 hours a day since it was released... As someone who has not played the game in about six weeks and has yet to finish a game, how can we hope to add anything meaningful to those who doggedly persist, whether they love or loathe the game?
And just what counts as "Off-Topic" anyway? What about stuff to do with Apolyton that doesn't necessarily involve Civ3 or any of the other games here?
