Why do we need civ3?
What's the point? Doesn't CTP2 meet our needs?

MY friend, my friend, not to be rude, but you are a fool to ask a question like that here, if I were you, I would be hiding right now, like Zero said, you are about to be bashed by everyone, including me.

I personally want civ3 because I need a game that will keep me on my comp. for hours and hours, having fun.
And I want a variety of fun games, right now, I am satisfied with Diablo 2, but after a while, I will want to play another FUN game.

avonlea, friend, I am willing to listen to where you are coming from... Call to Power II is a good game, but it is nothing more than a place holder for that which is Civ III. Unlike MarkG, I think that CTPII does NOT meet my needs, but it takes some of the edge of the wait for civ3. I buy it like I buy any other video game right now, but civilization... that holds a special place with me.

Civization III will be the next step in this series that has captured me. Civilization III will be all that Civilization II aspired to be. It encompasses all that we felt was lacking with the other games. It shall quench our thirst for better features. To question such an ideal.... is to reject that which we stand for.

Why did they bother developing games after space invaders. I mean everyone was happy with that game. Weren't they?

Well, if Civ3 doesn't make a dramtic improvement over Civ2, then you have a point. On the other hand, Civ2 has been satisfying many people even with CtP1&2 around, so if you were a betting man, you'd bet the farm on Civ3's becoming king.

I mean what bargain!!! $45.00 price for about 1,000 hours of fun, plus at my age (57) your brain needs stimulating.

There is a fairly good chance that Firaxis will manage to release a game that is better thought out and less buggy than CtP2. Civ 2 was a classic of its time but it nevertheless has things that could be expanded or improved. Sid being Sid, I expect Civ3 to play like a dream, too.

Until the games manage to model the growth and maintenance of empires far better than at present, I'll always be waiting for the next Civ game to be released. One of these days you might be able to zoom in on your capital and design its layout a la "Caesar/Cleopatra", your success becoming a factor in national morale, science, production or growth. Then move your units on the world map only to switch to a good battlefield sim for combat resolution. Meanwhile your plans for overhauling the national trade figures needs urgent attention. When a group of you are co-operatively multiplaying facets of the same empire against an AI which is whupping you on almost every front, then you know they've really made a true Civ game!

Personally, I can't wait for Civ III. I bought CTP, but after a couple of tries, I put it back in the box and haven't touched it since. I suppose it could be a good game if I gave it a chance.

This is the equivalent of posting a "I'm new!" thread in OT - why don't you try that as well?

No, in Australia we don't live with kangaroos and koalas in our backyards... Despite any stupid advertisments you may see to the contrary... (And no, koalas don't usually speak!)

Wow. You bothered to put it back in the box? I'm still debating whether to use my copy of ctp2 as a hotplate...

Seriously, I agree that CTP2 is interesting right now while I learn it, but for replayability, I see myself returning to SMAX before the month is out.
