The issue of closing threads...
I just want to make the comment that the moderator APPEARS to have little to no sense of humor AND seems to exercise bad judgement in selecting which threads to close.
By and large most of the threads I have seen closed should not have been.
Perhaps part of the trouble is that the moderator does not speak English natively. If this is true then I would suggest that it would be better not to jump the gun and close a thread unless you really understand the tone and nuances involved.
If the moderator does speak English natively then I would suggest that he/she/they back off. Moderator excesses reflect badly on bad moderators.
(now, you might want to move this thread, lol)

Yeah... right. While the admin here may not be American, most of the mods are.
And yes, this will be moved to the forum for complaints about moderator actions...

To prove that you are wrong they should ban you, just for fun

I don't exactly live in fear of being banned by Poly mods.

It seems like "some" people wanted to turn it into a civil war discussion... not something meant for the Civ III forum

did you even read the FAQ? or the rules when yuo signed up for a forum account? It mentions stuff like thread jacking, spamming, posting in the wrong forum. It also says that this is a private site and the admins can do anything that they like. Like closing threads.

Ming, I would suggest that by requiring discussion to stick to a narrow definition that you reveal a narrow mind. Of course, that does not apply to you personally, I am referring to forum policy.

What burns me is how rude, obscene, derogatory and inflammatory some people can be witrhout getting banned or a topic closed or moved as long as it began "on topic" yet humour is swiftly (re)moved. Its not the set of standards I would apply, but then again I'm not prepared to do the work 365 days a year so I'm mainly just amazed Markus and Ming stay as consistent as they do

Thats odd. I always thought that Markos has an excellent command of the english language. I see no problem.

I too have an issue with the humor.
HOWEVER,
it is amazing how much trash the mods DO catch.
And how many people DO get banned...
I bet over 10 people are on the list right now...
I'd say that is good work.
