Do you have the governor set to "Manage Production"?
Do you have the "Always Build Previously Built Unit" pref on?
because either of those will override the pref you mentioned.

I didn't want to open up another post for this bug.
I just installed the last patch and now my first CD-ROM unit (it's a Creative DVD-ROM 1241E) starts to examine the CD then after a few seconds a window appears telling me there was a reading error and to insert the original CD... (tried several times, same result)
Fortunately I've a second CD-ROM unit (a Yamaha CD Writer CRW8824E) and starting the game with the CD in this unit works fine.
I wanted to post this bug, maybe someone will have the same problem...

I checked the readme and didn't see anything regarding the A.I. trading techs during my turn. i've seen this bug myself in the previous patch, not sure if it was corrected in the latest....
can anyone confirm?

I received that error message too, but only I have a Toshiba 16x DVD. In fact, that error prompted me to uninstall the game and defragment my hdd.
I haven't reinstalled the game yet, but I don't want any nasty surprises when I do. Maybe I'll wait until the remaining glitches have been hammered out of the patch before I attempt to install it.

Mine error didn't tell me to re-install the game or to defragment the disk, just to insert the original CD 'cause there was a read error...
Now we've got two kind of errors... funny

Thanks for another faulty piece of programing
Just downloaded and installed the patch.
I am getting the "Read Error".
I only have one cd drive on my computer and my o/s is WinME.
Guess I'm forced to un-install/install and hope that works.

Soren left a post mentioning that this had been taken out in the patch.

I'm experiencing a bug and I haven't even played yet! I understood that the editor that went with the patch was incorrect, so I downloaded the 'correct' editor too, but now that I've installed the patch and the ''correct'' editor the editor won'r run! AND it won't be removed or moved either, cos it says it's a locked file.

Stacked movement doesn't work, when I try to enter a ship from the coast with a bunch of units (not in a city). Dragged movement also works (and always worked) only, if the unit is already located at the coast, 1 square from the ship.
Would be great, if I could just send a stack to a ship without moving it first to an adjacent coastal tile and then dragging one-by-one to the ship.

Text blurry
I just installed the patch and noticed that in the production screen the text is discolored/blurry. It appears to go bold when I hold the cursor over the text but it is very ugly.
As I think about it more maybe it has to due with font smoothing in XP. I will check it out when I get home. Has anyone else seen what I'm talking about?

The Expand in X turns text does not count on that some buildings will double culture production in less then X turns. I know that might be hard to fix, but it would be good if you could figure out a way to change it.

How about being able to use the GoTo command to send units to boats? if the boat is within my movement range, i don't know why i can't just autoload it onto the boat.......

I still think its a bug
Some have tried to explain this away. But I am not sure if they understand what I am trying to say here, so I will go into more detail...
And I am using the 1.15 editor version.
As I was jumping through the CS Units I noted that some of them were upgrading wrong or not at all. And this is even with the updated editor that I got off the main page.
1. Legions are upgrading to Immortals: If this is the case thin the Immortal is no longer a Civ Sp. Unit for the persions. The Romans can now use them.
2. Immortals have no upgrade: This limits the persions, because other CSU can upgrade as per the new patch.
3. Rider upgrading to Samurai: Rider = Chinese, Sammy = Japan, see what I am saying? They are no longer CSUs
4. Samurai upgrading to War Elephants: When did Japan have elephants?
5. Swordman are upgrading to Legionaries: I can see the logic here, but now the Legionaries can be gotten by all civs. Rome no longer has a CSU.
6. Horseman to mounted warriors: Ditto with number 5.
7. Musketman to Musketeer: Ditto with 5
8. Knight to Rider: Knight was to Cavalry. Now the other nations will be stuck with Mid era knights while the Chinese have other concerns.
9. Cavalry to Cossak: Ditto with 5.
And if none of the conversions work in game, then the area that says Civ. Sp. Units are now part of the upgrade chain is incorrect (unless I am reading that one wrong). Could someone who worked on the editor varify this....

It's all OK!
Trust me.
That's an old MODers trick to make specail unit upgradeable.
Swordsmen will never upgrade to Legion since no civ has two of them.
But,
Warrior will find its way to Legion by:
Warrior --> Swordsmen (ignored for Romans) --> Legion (ignored for non Romans)

Barbarian City Bug
When you create a game with some CIV positions set to NONE (in other words, less than the maximum), sometimes it creates barbarian civs in place of the missing civs. It happens most reliably when a new game is started with Quick Start.
The attached save has 2 barbarian civs.
