New sneaky Strat: D M S
Now, this strategy is an idea conceived in the darkness of the latest Civ III chat.
It was born as an idea after what Dan Magha said, so it would only be logical to call it Dan Magha Strategy.
I wanted to call it Dan Magha Sombrero, since that was his nickname.
bug40 (or something ), a not yet registered poly'er suggested : Dodgily Murdering Settlers.
I finally decided on Dodgy Massacare of Settlers.
As for the strategy itself - here goes:
You follow enemy settlers around, wait for them to build a city and wham! Take it, or erase it and build over it. Good sites are yours, and the enemy has less expanding territory.
This came to me after Dan Magha explained what they did to prevent this from hapenning

Sorry, but that's hardly a new strategy. Nice try though.

Okay okay, so it's not really a new strategy.
But it's a new name for a well known and familiar strategy.
So what do you think?
We already have ICS, OCC and such stuff.
Why not DMS?

Blah
I was here long before many, inventing solutions for the rise and fall of empires (which weren't implemented ) and now i invent a silly little name and it won't even stick.
I guess it was a bad thing i got sucked into the OT.
I started here...
Oh well.

It's better to not wait until they actually build the city. If you attack the defender/settler stack and win, you get two free workers. If you take the new size one city, you might get a bit of gold, but the city is destroyed.

Well, in war it's always good policy to plan for what is already obsolete. You never know when they'll revert to older units and tactics due to a lack of some resource.
I noticed the flag, but may I ask if you were educated by the French?
Good try anyway. At least you have Dan worried.

Actually, what they did, didn't make the strategy that much less viable.
IIRC they just made the AI a bit less keen on expanding and told it to have a military unit tag along once in a while.
But this is still a vialbe tactic (not strategy, sorry, it was late at night when i wrote that) to use against the AI.
Creep up on it's settlers! Go ahead!
I know it does so to my settlers
And... urm... I didn't get the reference about the French. It's not like I said I give up or anything

Yes about the Settlers.
Last night the Chinese start right next to me (Rome). I get Legions, start the war, wipe out 1 of his cities, take his capital, then 2 Settlers show up and try to cross Roman territory. Why? To get to the other side I presume.
They had escorts (Spearmen). So what? 1st Legion, dead Spearman, 2 new slaves for the empire. 2nd Legion, dead Spearman, 2 new slaves for the empire. It was great fun.
The French? Yes, well... Hmmm. It was a reference to their observed habit of preparing for the previous war in 1870, 1914, and 1940. That's the bad historians joke anyway.
