Why not take your UU, and give it the ability to make Army and/or Rush an Improvment.

First game played as Babylonians got two conscript armies also, and victory against a barbarian allowed Heroic Epic, working on Academy Now so I can get Pentagon soon.

Wonder if anybodies confirmed/denied if a corallary follows - can elite units fight barbarians now and get great leaders? - haven't seen it in my current game.

You can't crash the game converting your Palace, if you do it right.
