Explain Expel?
I'm sure this has been covered before, but I don't know where (didn't see it in the FAQ that I remember). It's clear that I don't understand the "Expel" command vis a vis the "Request Withdrawal" agreement.f
Basically, I request various AIs to withdraw their unit(s). Almost invariably, they accept the proposal, but the unit remains in place. If I then try to Expel the unit, a horn bleats and the red "No" symbol appears over the unit.
Once--and only once--that I remember I tried to expel a unit and it was expelled, and I can't remember what was different about that case.
So, what's going on?

I always hit "post" and then remember what *else* I meant to say.
The game I had in mind (for Expel *and* for the "Noyon" question) started pre-patch and continued with patch and without 'Poly.

You can't expel military units, only things like diplomats/ slavers/ settlers etc.Now depending on which version of CTP2 you are running(modded or unmodded) different things happen. In the unmodded CTP2 the AI was quite poor and not alot happend when you had a no-trespass agreement. In the modded versions each attempts to solve this problem, and although non is perfect it works out ok. Usually the units infringing on your territory try to leave but if they don't then they will just sit tight and are disbanded automatically over a few turns.

Thanks, Thorson (or Thorsdottir, if my assumption is wrong)!
Got MM2 working, finally, last night . . . and had one more "Expel" mystery:
At war with the Polynesians, Poly noble next to a Swordsman in my territory. Tried "Expel" and got the red "no" symbol. So I killed him, and dinged my reputation. Showing inability to learn, another noble showed up there. Tried "Expel" again. This time, the horns sounded and the Noble disappeared. AFAIK, my actions were the same both times, but the results were different.
Then, of course, the Noble came back the next turn, so I killed him... :rolleyes

Yes, you can only expel noncombat units which don't have any attack value. If you want to expel military units you still have to do it the old fashioned way...

Let's see...Scottish hoplite has been sitting 2 tiles from one of my cities for a thousand years or so. Artillery and tanks in the city. Maybe the new fashioned way?

Or would that qualify as a new approach to the old fashioned way? :-)
