Help! Edited civ3mod.bic & now can't load
Playing the Persians I find I can't upgrade Warriors to anything let alone my Persian Immortals. So I check the editor and find that Warriors upgrade to Swordsman which upgrade to Legions which upgrade to Immortals and the "Allowed Unit Civ" handles what is allowed. This is fine - but it doesn't seem to work. I can build Immortals but I can't upgrade warriors into them (I do have iron, barracks and money).
I tried editing the civ3mod.bic but now none of my saved games will load. Even when I put the settings back I can't load my games.

Now what do I do ????

Help please...

The error I get when loading saved games is "DataIO operation System Error: GAME"

I do not know for sure. I never had any problem, but if you moved the file from where it should be, or saved it to a different location, maybe the game can not find the file in the directory it should be in. The main Civilization directory, where the civ.exe or whatever that's called, is. Sorry, that's all I can think of.

Save a copy of the file and put it somewhere else first, before changing it, then I have used both versions -- both files called the same, by moving one out of the directory where the game needs it to run, and moving the other file there still called civ3mod.bic.

You'll have to reinstall the game and start from scratch.

Sorry Geo.

OK - at least got saved games working again.
Delete (or rename) the civ3mod.bic and then reinstall 1.17f patch this installs the latest civ3mod.bic. Have to rename as it only updates if filedate is older.

Still can't upgrade to Immortals though...

For some reason the patch uses a different "version" of the .bic files, so the old editor will just screw your files up. Download the new editor here...

geoffbland, if it's a problem with your bic file, you can download a fresh one from my post in Creation.

Good luck!

I installed 1.17 and loaded a saved game. It had obviously changed the .bic as well as I was suddenly playing the Iroq. instead of the Dutch. So I modified the .bic and now I get the same error as geoffbland. I have a backup, but that won't help me as I want to use a modified .bic.
I've just downloaded the patch again from www.civ3.com and a new editor from the Updated editor thread (when i finally found a link that worked).

Does currently available patch have the correct editor?
If I install the new editor from the Updated editor thread and edit the .bic again, will my saved game work?
