I.M. Picky has to come and play your course. If he likes it, he'll offer you the chance to buy more land, so make sure you've some cash saved to do so.
He comes infrequently, so you'll have to be somewhat patient. The next patch (1.2, which is beta) is supposed to increase the frequency of his visits

damn I need to get this game.
the demo restricts the amount of holes I can make.
But I really don't know sh!t about golf or gold courses. I have never set foot on a golf course.
But I have played golf games for the PC and sega genesis (long time ago )
and this game is fun...

should be plenty, unless you go on a spending spree and build ball washers everywhere

If I.M. Picky is playing your course and you know that you can not afford the cost of more land, his visit will be wasted, and you will have to accomplish more just to get him to come back.
To prevent a wasted visit, start a tournament before he finishes his round. After the tournament, you may have enough to buy more land and if I remember correctly, I.M. Picky will come back very soon to play another round in place of the one interrupted by the tournament.

I just recently got this game.
boy do I suck. I need to learn how to play. I'm not talking about the "manual" pamphlet. I need to really learn how to play.
I'm freakin' broke. I think I started off with too expensive a resort. Las Vegas. Everything is desert. Just to convert it to rough costs a lot of money. And I have gila monsters and roadrunners running around everywhere. And those damned dandelions.
They complain about thirstienss. But don't you have to have more than 5 holes to hire a vendor? I don't think a snack bar will help.
I have no more money to build holes. In fact at one point I was negative $25,000.

You can always hire the cheaper drink vendor, which is available from the word go. They get you $200 each drink they sell too. I normally put one at the end of every hole so I can get lots of money, as well as keep people happy.
To get rid of dandelions, hire a gardener type guy (the cheap one at first) and make him work near the greens. Then he will kill all those dandelions.
Your guy (Gary Golf) can also do all these stuff, like cleaning grounds, handing out drinks, marshalling people, but he doesn't work while he is playing a game, so its better to get hired help to do the stuff for you.
FYI Marshalls keep people from being upset while waiting for other golfers ahead of them to complete the hole. Greeters put people in slightly better moods.

Just got the game... very cool . Much more strategic than the demo...
Just started in Nova Scotia. Have a 7 hole course (bought two plots of land from IM Picky II), about $500,000, and Gary Golf (aka Shooter) is doing pretty well.

Nicely done Smash!
As for levels, I think the requirements to have Picky and Ivana return to your course change, and I remember finding it easier to get more money sooner at lower levels.

with the beta patches IM Picky has become a permanent fixture at my course. He won't leave.I swear. He offers some land and next message is "IM is playin blah blah".And well after there is no more land to buy.
Same with Ivana. The normal mode is like the sandbox mode except for very early when cash is low.I hope this will be toned back abit in the final..well,the next update.
I only have 2.5 "classic" holes on that(one hovers on 95-105 in imagination).PFunk's Classic 18 course is 18 classics with only 77/100 SGA Evaluation(iirc)

Smash,
I have not used the patch yet, but kind of like the idea of a time limit of 50 years to get a course in shape and to get up enough cash to purchase the next one.
I've had a few classics so far, too, but in separate games, so would like to see your latest if you would be kind enough to attach a save.
I think a regular SimGolf forum might be needed here at Apolyton.
One thing I thinking of trying for the fun of it is a new game, where the course is intentionally designed to frustrate golfers as much as possible, just to see how much they will take before leaving in disgust! You know, things like a green centered on a nice high, pointy hill, or water in every direction for about 280 yards around one of the tees.
Another thought is perhaps playing a OHC version of the game, to take the place of OCC in Civ.

Then go to the Apolyton/Community forums and go to my thread on who need a BHG forum .

here is the save of the 99/100 work in progress.
I have tons of cash and a fairly "advanced" golfer. This is the 3rd or 4th course of this game as you will see by the date and I have spent alot of time just watching the sims and where balls land and roll.
Also #6 was a classic..It has dropped drastically....if you can do anything to it,let me know.

I have finished that course and uploaded it to the exchange as "Flamingo Clutter Club".I managed a 98/100,)though I typoed it at 99 ).
Its a "messy" course that plays tough.

So much water on your course, and on the 18 classic course I downloaded from the Clubhouse, reminds me of Sim City, where water works like a charm in improving land values!
Sorry Smash, but all I could do was make your #6 a little bit worse. The course shows the results of a lot of time and planning. It's hard to see how to improve it.
I am trying impossible now, just to see what it is like. Picky and the others come at the same intervals as in difficult, but keeping golfers happy is harder. So far in 5 years, all I have is 3 holes (3rd has just opened), and the happy level is only around 100, and the club only has 5 members. (2 have quit in disgust after throwing tantrums!) The good news is that I have been able to purchase two blocks of land, so there is room for expansion. However, with low happiness, the simloeans come in a lot slower.
I'm discovering a few quirks, an example being that the golfers often admire things like fountains on plots I have not purchased yet! I've also heard "yoohoo" enough times to set the volume very low.

Why do you want to??
If you follow your golfers around the course, you will notice them saying in green text "I almost hit that ...." or something like that. Since it is in green text, it counts as a GOOD comment for your course, making your golfers happier and increasing the fees you get from that hole.

hmm good point. I always figured it was bad to have animals roaming around your course. It's a golf course, not a zoo. . of course I have never been on a golf course (except miniature)
