I think it makes no sense that the North Pole is so wide. The map in the corner should be a globe, and when you get near a pole the view will change to the circles we usually see on maps. Move to the edge, and you will travel farthur down river

Yeah, its gonna be kinda hard to make the maps smalle, sicne the game is based on squares, and as we all know, you can't make squares into a circle without overlapping them (we had to try for a science project, wasted 3 hours doing it....)
and it would also mess up the walking/city radius, and as weird god said, it would favour equator starters

this is a mathematical problem....either you use a 3d globe or a projection where the square-numbers are identically for low and high degrees. a mixture as used in normal maps would favor starts at the equator.
