Modswapper problem
Modswapper 1.12 is working fine on my Win XP Home desktop. I can launch the Original, 'Poly, MedMod2, and Cradle. I hadn't gotten around to installing mods on my Win98 laptop, but now I'm having troubles.

I installed "the lot" but when I launched Modswapper, the only option given was "Original Game." So...

I uninstalled CTP2, and deleted the residual files and subdirectories beneath the CTP2 directory. I reinstalled CTP2. I installed the patch. I installed Modswapper. I installed the Apolyton Pack(unzipped into the CTP2 directory). Launched Modswapper. "Original Game" is the only option.

What am I doing wrong?

The next thing I did was to rename the MM2_Great_Library.txt and the NN2_Newsprites.txt so that the MM2_ part was dropped off. Once I did this, I went back into the Gamefiles.txt file and changed the entry for each of those two files to reflect the new name. Before copying those files and the Intromovie file into the \\ctpdata\gamedata\ directory, I made copies of the originals and put them in a seperate place. I then over wrote the originals with the renamed files. Now it seems to work fine. I am really enjoying the new mod. It has given CTP2 new life.
ModSwapper it seems does not run on Win2k, but you can use a manual workaround. I don't know how reliable those instructions are, I'm sure there are clearer ones around, but I can't find 'em.

Ben, it's obviously past your bedtime as you're not awake anymore: Hermann is trying to install in on Win98, not Win2k

Ed,
I have no idea what might be causing this problem, I know from firsthand experience that ModSwapper works fine on Win98. A desktop or laptop to the best of my knowledge can't make much of a difference. All I can think of is that something went wrong while installing Apolyton Pack. Check the default\gamedata file: does the file APOL_gamefile.txt exist in this folder? If not something went wrong. If so, ModSwapper should work and soemthing really weird is going on...

Edit: if the APOL_gamefile.txt file is located in the main CtP2 folder, you extracted the zip while having the option 'extract to subdirectory' (or whatever it's called in the unzip program you're using) unchecked, this should be checked of course.

AHA! Yes, you *do* have an idea. The instructions say "unzip to the Call To Power 2 directory" and don't say "be sure the 'use folder names' box is checked." I remember seeing the APOL_ files in the main folder. Right now I'm on my WinXP machine, and by coincidence that box *is* checked here, which is why Modswapper worked fine here.

Thanks!

p.s. Have pity on the poor wombat; I'm not awake either.

It ain't arrogance if it's true

Please don't use my real name unless you have to, I don't mind it appearing in public forums but most people have difficulty enough spelling Locutus, I seriously doubt anyone would get Wouter Snijders right...
