Patch or expansion pack?
I know there is a current thread on this one, but I'd like to take it a little deeper.

What would you prefer Firaxis working on, more patches or an Expansion Pack?

And if you prefer to see them working on the XP, then please tell us what part of it you prefer to see (SP, MP, etc...)

EDIT:

I could make it multi choice, but then you'll proberly just check all boxes Sure I'd like to see all things included, but lets just be little realistic

Personally I'd like them to be working on MP

Patches. Some minor things are necessary to the basic version of Civ3, such as a complete rules editor and basic scenario tools (it seems to be on firaxis's agenda). Some minor gameplay flaws could be fixed, and minor additions (shift+j, alt+j) could be made, before they work on a big project such as MP or a coding language for modders.

I voted for bananas as I think it's too early for an expansion pack. But since 1.17 I'm not all that keen on patches as every patch seems to fix things that didn't need fixing and leaves bugs alone. The stacked movement good, but the reported A.I. tech trading very bad. I don't want to play one A.I. with 7 personas, I want to play 7 A.I.'s.
Bananas seemed the safest option.

Bananas rule . They have my vote.

I'm pretty sure there will be an expansion with MP and hopefully some scenarios as well. I really liked the Civ2 scenarios and I don't see why there should be none of them in Civ3.
However, I think that both features should have already been implemented in the full version; the latter at the very least! It's a pity that the game was released in that state.

Voted Banana as in all of the above. In this
day and age, there is simply no excuse for putting out a game that is missing so much of the things we took for granted in the seemingly "inferior" older civs.

Patches Baby.

While I still think it is a little harsh to call it a beta, it still needs tweaking.

I will agree that it seems each patch has made the game less fun for me personally due to some of the changes, while they have added some benefits, and have left other problems untouched. Quite puzzling really.

My thinking on the whole state of affairs is this. PATCH THE EDITOR. Give us the power to make the game what we want, don't go chasing 100 different opinions on how the game should be played and changing all the rules with the patches. Give us a scripting language, make the game rules more adjustable.

I must say I'm a little surprised that the Bananas has more voters than MP, as the game came out everybody was yelling: "Where is the MP?"... But I'm not surprised that there's more patch people than MP!

Small update: Patches have taken the lead now, so don't waste your energy by being too suprised . The reason I voted for bananas is just that the option was really funny.
I agree with Bill as for the Beta thing, you can't call the current version a beta in my opinion. There are too much things missing which should be there, though. The XP will probably solve that, provided that you have the extra money to pay for it. Well, I guess I'm whining about commercialism and such things once again...

Edit: sig, wrong statement in the 1st line.

as one of the MPers, IMHO i'd rather see them patch up SP before mucking around with the MP (and hopefully making a kickass MP as a result )

I think they need to make a patch that allows for proper scenario making. I really miss being able to make and play scenaros like we could in Civ2.

Personally I wouldn't call it a beta thing myself, cuz I do like the game as it is now, with the latest patch it has reached final But I have just heard a lot of people around whining about it being a beta, that's why I chose those words

Tech trading is a major new problem and I hope Firaxis takes expeditious action to remedy the situation. That said, if I had MP I could play against other humans and I wouldn't have to worry about Firaxis has tweaked (or not tweaked) the AI. The fact that CTP2 has MP and that it is so easy for everyone to fully customize the game to their tastes is a big reason why I'm still playing CTP2. Why can't Firaxis learn this?

I voted for an XP because they need the prospect of money to be able to do the major work that still needs to go into the game.

I myself don't care about MP or scenarios, I just want a solid normal game. I can understand people who strongly disagree and do care about those thing though.

1) The game is well beyond Beta. The patches have adjusted for player exploits which NO amount of testing can avoid. The patches have also fixed some broken things that should have been caught in testing. However, the game is wildly complex, and therefore was probably bound to have some errors (e.g., player air superiority).

2) We were teased with original promises of full editing capability, MP, and Designer's Notes with the luxury version. Should be obvious by now that we'll have to pay again to get any of these. Therefore, I say "Get on with it!"

3) Many of the "we need a patch" folk are actually whiners demanding a change to suit themselves that does not represent a bug but rather a design complaint. Only a powerful editor (see 2 above) will permit them to make those changes for themselves.

Patches - just
1.17 made some nice improvements - even if it's not proper stacked movement - it's still a lot better, but there are still some things that need improving - true stack movement would be a BIG plus. A mini map in the editor would make me a happy man.

My Civ3 box has treadmarks on it...
You know what you call a product that barely lives up to its predecessors, requires patch after patch to improve gameplay, and lacks features of comprable games?

INFERIOR!

Sid has played the entire civ community for fools and gotten away with it...

This is the sort of shoddy production that gets other industry fields slapped with giant lawsuits. Sometimes it's a pitty it doesn't translate into the game industry...

I voted for XP- adding something else. If anyone has noticed there has been heated debate over the system of governments in the game. I suggest that Firaxis look at our ideas, implement them as best as they can, and maybe add a few more civs. Then they can make an XP (and anyone who bought the limited edition can trade in the metal tin for the XP. That way, those of use who were stupid enough to get ripped off by that gimmick will be able to fell slightly less ripped off.)

I think one more small patch to fix a few things should be released sometime in April first, and that patch should also include some Editor features. Then after the game has been pretty well solidified work on an XP should proceed. That XP should continue to solidify the game (improve AI, reduce late-game tedium, , full MP capabilities (LAN, Internet, Hot Seat, PBEM), a few extra features (improvents on culture/combat/corruption systems for examples), make it possible to make scenarios (expand on the editor), and some goodies (extra wonders/improvements, units, techs). Maybe a late summer/fall release for the XP, as well. At least that is my hoping (I should I say wishing ) for the future path Firaxis will take.
