If you were stranded on a desert island...
and you somehow had access to a magical working computer that could only have 1 civ game on it with no possiblility of putting any others on it. Which would it be?
This is a better poll than: Do you like civ3 better than civ2?
because the answer to that will be overwhelminly yes. But is the replay value there compared to civ2?

Civ III, I've played Civ II quite a bit already. Civ III, despite it's slightly linear play style does have good replayability.

This was a tough choice for me. I like CtP2 a lot (ok stop laughing ) but I chose Civ3.
I think it's ability to keep your attention over and over again is better than the CtP series. I do miss Public Works and all those weird non-combatant units though!

...I would look out, where bananas grow, rather than playing silly games, because probably I would have no computer and no electricity. Second look would be for oil and saltpeter .
If I was stranded on a desert island with a computer, electricity and a bunch of civ games, I would play Civ3, SMAC, Civ2 and CtP2, in this order.
But if I was allowed to play only one civ game, it would be Civ3 (vote).
The result of this poll in this forum is easy predictable though. I wonder what the result of a similar poll in the other forums would be.

As long as I also had access to the internet, Id be pretty happy playing Civ 3 on my island
And if I had enough food and water...

Well, Civ II is still a bit better for longterm playability (I've played but 3 games of Civ 3 since on the easy levels the endgame gets boring) but I COULD NOT be stranded with just one game. I would have to swim home and get more.

I appreciate Civ2 as a great game, but I can't see going back to it after playing Civ3. Mostly because the AI gives such a better fight in Civ3, while in Civ2 it was a guaranteed win, even if you played not-so-great.
That is just how I feel about it though.

Railroad Tycoon 2 - It's the one I tend to go back to in between recurring bouts of Civ 3 (my current jag), CTP2 (Cradle) and Europa Universalis
It's sort of like cleansing my palate (or perhaps my palette?)
(Oh - and once in a while 1602 and when I'm banished to my old computer Transport Tycoon, Colonization and Master of Magic).
And solitaire when I'm sitting in airports with my company laptop -so strangely enough that's the one I am most likely to be stuck with in reality.

yeah I can't wait either.
of course I never seriously said civ3 sucks (I may have unseriously said it). And I don't believe I did so here. I merely said civ2 had better replay value.
but feel free to put whatever words you want into my mouth.

I'm posting exactly what I want to post. I never claimed not to be a spammer. I just use more words than most spammer to try to convey some sort of meaningful message. I don't necessarily believe what I am writing.

I MUST say that SMAC is better for my politicaly-incorrect-sociopathic-halusagenic-megalomaniacal tendencies. However, I also am forced to agree with you guys that I can't go back to civ2 (culture, unique civs and resources are too important) even if I find civ3 linear as hell. and ctp1/2 was fun, but it wasn't as replayable and by the time I got to 21st century techs it became a mess.

If I was stranded on an island I wouldn't even want a computer.
But....in the spirit of things, Civ 3.
and lots of beer and native women!

I would bring 2
Civ 2 to play over and over...
and Civ3 to use for getting my distress signal fire going...

I say SMAC, even with its ugly-ass graphics. Three cheers for the singularity laser!
