funny barb island
In my last game (single player) the barbs took the chinese capital very early. Beijing (or Peking) was a size 8 city on an island that produced barbs and barbs through the centuries. When Apollo showed photos from earth, it was funny to see:More than one hundred barbs on that island, not one square barb-free ...the island was covered with red shields. Funny

Ah, the old grocery store for non units.
A few transports, dips, and a little cash.
I'll take one from column A, and 42 from column B.

One would think that the barbans would attack the diplo. I guess one person could keep an ordered regiment under control to negotiate with, but with about 20 barbarian units, one would think that one unit would attack out of bloodthirst before the negotiations.

Actually it's quite easy. Transport cruises along shore and whenever a barb is by him/herself (damn sensitivity training) diplo leaves ship bribes unit and moves back onto ship. New non-unit also moves on to ship. No risk what so ever even if 30 barbs are right next to it. With a spy you can grab two if they're next to each other.
Repeat Repeat Repeat. When ship full send back home to be replaced by an empty one.
Yes, leo's makes this very lucrative. Non-rifleman and Calvary can be effective even towards the end of the game.
