Barbarians...not fair!
i have yet to see AI unit lose to a barbarian. even when the AI unit gets to 1 hit point left with barbarian still full strength, the AI unit still kills the barbarian. anyone ever seen AI unit (not worker/settler) lose to a barbarian?

also, what is with the huts and barbarians? lately all my games have excessively high percentage of barbarians popping out of huts. the barbarians kill my very first settler quite often and im not about to wait to build a spearman/warrior escort while AI expands like a mutha..

Yes I have seen the AI being defeated by barbarians. (Warriors mostly).
It happens to the AI as often as it happens to me (i.e. nearly never )

If you want to have an easier time with the barbarians you can change the combat bonus against them in the editor.

IIRC you can turn off the barbs almost entirely without incurring a scoring benefit, pleasing even the most uptight scoring perfectionists. =)

i think having excessive barbarians can be one of the best strategies for deity -- you can finance many quick improvements if you are collecting 25 gold/camp on multiple borders from the constantly recurring encampments

Like Todd said, the AI gets a bonus against barbarians compared to the human. This difference is significant on deity.

So go ahead and change it in the editor.

AFAIK the bonus is the same for the human and the AI.

i dont know about this, because since AI expands so quickly to just about any spot on the map, there aren't many spots for barbarians to spawn. and even when i see a barbarian camp, the AI units beat me to it a lot of the times.

The AI knows the Position of all Barbarian camps. If I want to find one in my "backland", I trade Worldmap with another Civ and get always the Position of the Barbarians.

The AI are playing at Regent level. The combat advantage over Barbs at Regent is 400%. At Diety, the advantage is 0%. These are all default Editor values.

For me, I reset ALL levels to 0%! Give those Barb Hordes a chance at giving a good knock on someone's door.

Actually you can milk the babs, that is if some blank, distanced areas exist in/near your territories and if other cives can't reach the area. Kill the babs on the location, move from the location (approx. 7 turns?) and return.

Usually the camp will have risen again (noticed the bab ships looking for spawning grounds?).

Conquer again and repeat and ...
