Good console games
So here is your opportunity to rave about your favorite console games, new or old, on any system.
My recent favs are on the X-Box: Halo.. of course, and Dead or Alive 3. I also found Genma Ominusha very addictive, but I will have to rent it to continue along.
I'm really looking forward to "the Thing" for X-Box, as I just watched the movie for the first time, and am looking forward to see if the developers managed to tag the paranoia.

Areobiz: Supersonic, and Uncharted Waters: New horizons, both for the SNES, are probably my favorite (little known) console games.
I won't bother listing my other favorites such as Final Fantasy, ect... because they are all so popular.

Hey Osweld, I loved Uncharted Waters, man that game sucked up a lot of my time.
Did you ever play Ogre Battle? That was a good game.
I remeber when Mario 3 1st came out I paid $90 dollars for it.
Just shows that game prices don't really change, just the quality.

Yeah, that was a pretty good game too, but it could get real boring/tedious.

I think NES got some of the best console games:
Super Mario Brothers 3
Dragon Warrior 3
Contra
Castlevania 3
Mike Tyson's Punch Out

Lylat Wars AKA Starfox 64 for the N64.
Sure it starred fluffy animals, but the action, bosses, levels and music are absolutely brilliant.
A hell of a lot of dialogue for a cartridge game too.
Chrono Trigger: I downloaded it as a ROM, but I played it right through. Really damn impressive.
Dizzy on the NES was also good.

Goldeneye007 for N64 is also excellent, and still holds its own against many FPSes today. Perfect Dark for N64 is another gem, as long as you ignore the lame plot and stick with the excellent gameplay. If realistic weapons are more your style, then The World Is Not Enough (also for N64) is another good title.
The Mario series of games features some real stars: Mario 3 for NES is probably the best side scrolling game ever made, and Mario64 for N64 is still one of the best 3D platformers. Mario Kart for the SNES is superior to its N64 incarnation.
Zelda: A Link to the Past is in my opinion the best of the series (SNES) surpassing even the N64's two offerings (which could suffer from the "what does the designer expect me to do now?" syndrome).
For other N64 diamonds in the rough, try Space Station Silicon Valley (much innovation and a little coprophilia), Conker's Bad Fur Day (vice versa), and Jet Force Gemini (naked survey men with clipboards).

golden oldies
the Shining Force games on the Sega Megadrive (or Genesis, depending on where you come from) are abolute classics of console gaming. they are still my favourite ever RPG's - and i've played a lot - simply because the gameplay is basic, but perfectly executed.
i'd advise anyone to check them out since they are easily available as ROMs if you have an emulator, and you can keep them on your hard drive for 24 hours, if you don't own the cartridge, without breaking the law.
Shining Soul is coming out for the GBA pretty soon. they've made it into more of a Zelda type game, which i'm not too jazzed about, but i'll give it a try anyway snice i've been waiting a loooong time for another game in the series.

My top 5 Console games
5.Zelda: Link to the past-ah, so many, many lonely nights.....
4. Final Fantasy V on SNES or PS1 (or emulated ) IMHO, the most enjoyable of the series. -My lead character is a Samurai Ninja Blue Wizard who is also an Animal training chemist. Quite a lot of choices there.
3. Dragon warrior III on NES-the best of the nintendo rpgs
2. Chronotrigger on SNES-nuff said
1. Xenogears on PS1-incredible story, very immersive. tg they released it in the US

Well, those which I had more funwith were:
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Sega Mega Drive (Genesis))
Great platform game. Really refined and detailed. Gotta love it.
Micro Machines 2 (Sega MD)
Great graphics, really fluid, and a great time to spend with three more friends (oh and the laughter sessions with 8 guys playing simultaneously in 4 (!) gamepads!). Those were the days...
Super Skidmarks (Sega MD)
Another car race game, with great fast 3D tracks, 4 simultaneous players, and (litteraly) a cow on weels
Dune II (Sega MD)
Well, while most of the world was addicted on this game in their PCs, I was on my MD. Not with the same graphic quality as the PC, but still a lot of fun and addicting!
Sonic and Tails (Sega Game Gear/ Mega Drive (don't remember))
Another platform game, but this time you had to think how to use both characters in order to overcome the obstacles. Really funny and interesting.

--Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Many an hour I have spent on MP in those games... (most of them losing )
--Most of Square's SNES RPGs were quite good-- FFIV, FFV, FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu III, the Romancing Saga series, even Super Mario RPG
--Shining Force II and Ogre Battle-- two very solid (if badly translated) strat-RPGs.
--Phantasy Star IV.
--Super Mario 64.
--Tetris. Yes, the original Game Boy version.
