The Record of Mauro II, Apolyton XXXIV of the Republic of Ra
350 BC
Elections are called out and two parties battle for leadership. The Apolytonian Legion who stands for a strong and dominant republic and so promoting an immediate switch in research to iron working vs. the Palm Tree Coalition a somewhat leftish bunch of unorganized people calling for a more peaceful Republic. With a 20-point lead in polls the Legion is expected to win and some party members make extra sure of that and rig the election turning the result into a 90% vote for the Legion. A good thing that the courts are independent and rule the election invalid. Since the nation is in desperate need of a leader the court decides on a draw and so out of 2 ¼ million people a young male called Mauro (actually a descendant of Apolyton XXX) is chosen to become Apolyton XXXIV beginning a family tradition of accidentally chosen leaders…
On his first tour some preferences of the new leader become visible when he orders the a few cities to turn their attention to creating trade with caravans. Furthermore he sends some entertainers and farmers into early retirement while contracting all of Lykopolis’ population as farmers, troops are ordered to advance towards Heian kyo and the national public works rate is reduced to 0%.
340BC
The fortress on the way to Lykopolis is completed and immediately work on the connecting road is restarted.
A Yamato stack of four units decides to attack our troops but is destroyed without losses on our side.
330BC
Heian kyo is rightfully ours, we loose 3 hysiapist in battle. The wise men present finalized construction plans for ballista towers and start research on the iron smelting process. Memphis starts trading spices with Kells for 38 gold.
320BC
Troops advance towards Nara (size 17) and find a stack of 9 units parked outside of the city.
Barbarians attack a moving hysiapist north of Carmarthen and win!
310BC
Our empire is trimmed on money making for the upcoming upgrade to Legions.
The Arabians send a size 12 stack towards Kamakura!
300BC
Another humiliating defeat for the Yamato – their stack is gone while we only lost one unit. Our three belfrois continuously bombard Nara.
The Arabians are pirating our trade routes on water – a request send to them is rejected. We need to build a strong fleet to destroy their ships.
290BC
Holy ****, two Arabian stacks are now visible – we better prepare for terrible fight!
280-270BC
The Arabian stacks advance towards Kamakura again.
260BC
Our wise men finally master Iron working. Thanks to careful planning of many generations we have enough gold to reequip and retrain our hoplites and hysiapists. The nation’s economy resumes a regular working state.
On a national holiday the wise men proudly present iron working. Mauro II is very interested and steps a little too close to the red glowing sword that’s being forged. His mantle catches fire! Trying to take it off the great leader stumbles and falls right into the sword. The heat burns and seals the wound and so, after the sword has been removed Mauro II suffers for almost a week with a hole through his stomach until he finally dies of the infections.
The leaderless wise men decide themselves to start research on the first thing on their list – concrete.

Hmm...almost have to admire the Arabians for preparing well for an attack. We've been nominally at war with them for centuries, and now two armies appear from "harmless little Fes." That and wreaking havoc along our trade routes. Well, Locutus, have fun!
