planting forests for resources
does anyone know wether in order to obtain, for example, coal, wich should appear in forests, it helps to plant forests. In other words, if I forest an area, is it likeley I'll get my coal (wich I need so badly and don't want to trade for)?

The only way that planting Forests will help is when a resource disappears and shows up somewhere else on the map. All the initial resources are placed on the map at the very beginning of the game, so unless there's a disappearance somewhere, it won't make any difference whether you plant Forests or not. In fact, if a resource was placed in a Forest at the beginning of the game, you can cut down that Forest and the it will still appear at that location.

Which is kind of odd in some cases, e.g. how the hell do you get rubber without tress? Although I have an even weirder case in my current game: the now dead Aztecs went in for a lot of foresting, with the result that that in the occupied areas we now have Cattle, Horses and WHEAT in forests .

Money may not grow on trees, but cattle, horses and wheat sure do
