The Civ3 pyramid is looking best so far, and the Aztec and Egyptian pyramids from the top picture. I guess something could be done with the Blue Mosque as well.
I suggest the wonders only be placed on plains and grassland tiles as well, the forest will make it very hard to get it to look good.

Great ideas!
Locutus: Those imported images in CTP2 look terrific Those Pyramids do indeed rise above the landscape. . .
Other games where graphics might be useful would be the Caesar II/III, Pharoah and Cleopatra games. . .
Nice work everyone. Clearly, importing graphics from other games seems like the way to go. . .

Red Alert 2 might be another game to acquire modern Wonders, such as the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, White House, Pentagon, etc:

Anyway, here's another picture of some of the aforementioned wonders in action. Again, the quality is low and the picture crowded, but it gives an nice impression of how this would look like in the game.
Around Tanis you see (turning clockwise, starting north): Notre Dame (AoK), Pyramid of Khufu (Civ3), Gates of Isthar (EE), al-Malwiya (AoK), Forbidden City (Civ3).
Around Memphis: Hanging Gardens (Civ3), Pharos (EE), Oracle (Civ3), Blue Mosque (AoK), Apollo (Civ3), Aya Sofia (AoK).
|
That picture looks great!! WOW i'd love to stumble across a civ with all that outside its city
It may look too clutterd, but if you impliment the wonders restrictions as have been discussed already, limit the amount of wonders each city/civ can build it should never be a problem! This has to go into a mod - all of them! Keep at it please

Good to see people are liking this. Now all we need is someone to actually take all those pics and turn them into tile imps (Hi, Ben! ).
Anyway, found another couple of useful pictures in the 'throne room' of CtP1: Arc de Triomphe, a few modern office buildings (Empire State?), Statue of Liberty, a bridge (not any specific one AFAIK but it could be used as some famous bridge (Eiffel Bridge or whatever)).
All the pics posted by various people are useful as well but we could still use a few more pics: Angkor Wat, Taj Mahal, Kremlin, Versailles, Petronas, Sagrada Familia, Torii, Hindu temples of Madurai; those are all pretty important wonders which are large and impressive enough to deserve their own tile imp...

Pharoh was mentioned so here is some stuff from that game, less cartooney than Zues but both are a good source for Wonders.

Locutus,
NOW we know why the Army of Ptah was wiped out so easily: they were completely bewildered by mirages of gigantic wonders all around them, and then panicked when they saw a gigantic (99-strong) barbarian army bearing down on them.
I guess those were the wrong mushrooms to eat on the morning of the battle...

LOL, that must be it. We should order the troops to refrain from eating shrooms and stick to the rations
CoT,
There are some nice ones in there indeed.
ískallin,
Too bad you don't have sprites. Do you have pics for different facings of each unit or just the ones you posted?

A few more nice buildings from CeasarIII. I'll have a look through Pharoh to see what/if i can pull any sprites from the files. The buildings will be easier to convert as they are static objects(?), and i guess if they will be converted to terrain tiles then unit sprites will walk 'over' them?Hmmm......not exactly perfect but i can't see how else it could be done. Having the Wonders displayed outside the respective city will improve the game alot - add a real sense of achievment. What happens when a city is captured?will armies be able to damage/destroy these wonders and how can that be implimented?

That's pretty much how all other objects (tile imps, cities, terrain) work as well, I see no problem with that.

Well, the wonder in reality is inside the city so I don't think it should be possible to pillage the wonders. If a wonder is destroyed inside the city due to combat, the tile imp can either be removed or replaced by a 'ruin' tile imp...
