I'd put my money on Phily... but it isn't in the poll.

I'd say Denver, just because it seems like out of the cities listed, Denver would be the most easily defensible. Any city with a harbor would be very tough to keep nuke-free indefinitely...

Hey Mods, if any of you see this thread, could you add Philly to the poll choices please? Seems to be a bit of support for it.
Thanks

Chicago makes a better choice, I think. Central location, easier to defend than NYC, hasn't been prone to attack.
Also depends on who attacked us. If it was Russia, we aren't putting the capital in California

philly was the capital until washington d.c was built. i think adams was the first president to reside in washington. there's no reason why it couldn't go back to being philly, they already have historical monuments and stuff there for tourists. the liberty bell, and i think the building where they wrote the constitution is still standing

once you get into the US, which is riduclously easy, at least it used to and i bet it still is; there are no checkpoints or borders or anything. and since Star Wars is just a dubya wet dream, you can't defend against a nuke attack by missle, which probably wouldn't be the case. you could drive into any major city with a nuke in the back of a truck, and the government couldn't stop you, i don't even think they could try effectively

The temporary capitol would probably be something like NORAD.
Washington would be rebuilt.

If Washington is nuked, how high is the possibility of the US balkanising over such a pathetic issue as this?

Actually, after the Brits burned Washington, there were plans made to move tha capital permanently to Southern, IL. There's a tiny little town on the Ohio River, America, IL, that was supposed to be the new US capital. Obviously, it never happened.
After the revolution, the capital will be moved to Detroit or Chicago. ;-)

So, che, you are saying that the US capital will NEVER be Detroit or Chicago?

No, no, no. Imran's relatively low on the list. He's probably re-educatable. He goes to Alaska.

For Boston for Boston, we sing our proud refrain for Boston for Boston 'tis wisdom's earthly fame
for here are all one and our hearts are true and the towers on the heights reach the heavens own blue.
for boston for boston 'til the echoes ring agin!
For Boston for Boston thy glory is our own
for Boston for Boston 'tis here that truth is known
and ever with a right shall our heirs be found 'til time shall be no more and thy work is crowned
for Boston for Boston thy glory is our own!

I think you should factor in the Government, or what's left of it, would have to make a snap decision.

The new capitol wouldn't be any of those places. It'd be somewhere smaller, a place less likely to be the target of an attack (terrorist or otherwise). Of course, it'd probably move to somewhere hidden the government hasn't told us about... you know, one of the Vice President's "undisclosed locations."

I live in South Dakota. We have nuclear missile fields to the north of us in North Dakota and we have our own Ellsworth AFB, home to 30 or so nuclear bombers.
Suffice to say, if those fields and the airbase were taken out by nukes, I'd probably be fried by the radiation, depending on which way the wind was blowing and, of course, the "dirtiness" of the warheads.
So don't worry, Ozzy. Your home isn't the only one threatened.
Back on topic, I think Philadelphia would be a good place to relocate the nation's capital, should Washington, D.C., vanish beneath the mushroom clouds of nuclear strikes. I also think that Denver, St. Louis and maybe San Francisco would make nice backup capital sites. Of course, I prefer that the scenario AH outlined doesn't come to pass, 'cause if it does ... well, I don't think Washington, D.C., will be the only capital going out with a bang.

My vote would be for St. Louis.
