FoA Interview #8: Ming (Part 1)
The eighth edition of the "Faces of Apolyton" interview series, spearheaded by Apolyton staff member and interviewer Solver, is here. Today, we sport a massive seven-page article with Ming -- and that's only the first part! Undoubtedly one of the most widely anticipated "FoA" editions to date, he's everyone's favorite forum moderator, "Man with a Thousand Guns", and the second instalment is only a week down the road. You are welcome and encouraged to post your comments on this interview in this thread.
What can you look forward to in future "FoA" features? On April 9th Jay Bee, webmaster of the Spanish CivII Site hosted on Apolyton, will bask in the limelight. For past "FoA" and other interviews, click here.

Very interesting interview. One of the best FoA interview ever read

How did you managed to find a gamer woman Ming?
Hard to find one

Good interview Like Keygen said, it focused a little too much on other posters, but I learned a lot of new things about that big guy doing all those moderator chores for me

For the most part, very pithy. Almost like this guy is used to many questions and many answers in a short period of time. How would that be?
How could it not focus a lot on other posters? How many times do you get the chance to look into the psyche of the merciless one? Although, he did come through as almost human. Just kidding.
Oh well, he has a chance to redeem himself in part 2.
More insightful into the human behind the handle than others I've read.

Yeah, thanks Chris for the interview!
In the second part Ming does say something about himself, like what music he loves and what he thinks about Civ 3. That's why the second part should actually be a taboo read for any Firaxians.

Good interview, even though I'm slightly biased
SCA, hmmm he was once interviewed on a local TV station while wearing a kilt. I laughed for a month.
If part 2 doesn't reveal the man, I have plenty of stories
(Ming, you know where to send the check)

Parts is parts...
I see comments about the focus on posters, but keep in mind, I didn't know this would be split.
Part two will reveal a LOT more.

That's why we decided to do it different. The current format leads to exactly that type of interview. We thought a live interview would work better. Just trying something new

you're welcome, Dan
re: the focus on posters.
i perceived no such focus, i see it as just another part of the interview, like the comic books and other hobbies.
*checks watch*
still a whole week to go for the rest

Not fair, people who can find AH players...
Nice interview though...
Very interesting stuff, my wife doesn't hate games, she merely tolerates them.

The elections were wild. Ming agreed. There were the original Apolyton elections where the David's got elected and than Lordstone got elected on some sort of do-over. I used all the different lab computers to put in 50 votes for Ming and elect him to some sort of Senate. Ming got the second most votes. Some other poster like Dom was first...but he cheated. I mean different sort of cheating. Correction to Ming's account: This was before Ming was OT moderator. I haveta think that this had some effect in getting MArk to ask Ming for help (seeing an ON-TOPICER who was known on the Off-topic.) The funny thing is that back in the day, Ming was not in OT very much. He got into more as a result of being moderator and even participated in fun threads like "bashing".
One part that the interview did not talk about much was the intense resistance that Ming got when he took over. It was way more rancourous than the light whining that PH does nowadays. I seriously worried if anybody could stick it out. But he outlasted the Brat Pack.

GP...
The brat pack gets addressed in the second part of the interview
And are you really sure I wasn't a mod when you did a "Chicago" for me and got me elected as a senator? I remember it that way, but you know, as you one gets older...

That just shows that Chris can be Gestapo .
Rah, can't believe you only saw this interview when posted here, I'm almost sure you saw it before.
Generally, I'm starting to think that Rah might be an interesting interview. How's living with Ming? How often does he speak of Apolyton? How much beer does he drink each Christmas ? And, of course, we want photos of him in the strange costumes.
Ming, I really hoped you would send a photo of yourself for the interview. All in all, it's nice to see the man, and many certainly want to see the way you look - just for those cold flames in your eyes.

Oh and I played the Freedom Force Demo the other day. Very interesting, especially if you love those golden age comics. Slightly hard to control but I think it's something you probably get used to. It's got a great character creation system and there are already thousands of skins out there.
You can download it from Gamespy or a lot faster from http://www.freedomforcecenter.com 90 meg but that shouldn't be a problem on DSL.
Not 100% about it but as it comes out in the UK in a month or so I can find out what all the yanks think about it before I decide whether to get it or not.
