in 2D 16civ... by moden age, it would take PC 15min a turn. what happen if it go 3D??
it would take 3 hr per turn.
maybe new graphic card draw faster in 3D, but i'm asure u the gameplay will also slower due to using more cpu power. even GPU cant do everyting on their own without the help of CPU.
i would alot happier playing 30civ and run smoothly, then having 3D but need to wait for 3hrs/turn kinda game

And just where do you get your information from, EvilNOD?

"And there will be strange events in the skies--signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!" --Luke 21:25-28
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. --1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

err... did u ever play til last age in 16civ game?? if u do, then u know what i talking about.
beside, pc got alot powerful since civ2 release. but what we got?? 15min of wait in last age.
GPU do need help from CPU, then why we got video buffer for. new card such as GeeForce may free alot of task from CPU, but not totally. otherwise we don't need a faster bus speed from systemboard.

Poorly written poll!!
Keep the game 2-D. It's a board game on computer. 3D distracts from chess and will distract from this game. Even if CPU's can handle the faster speed when civ4 comes out, who cares. Just give a grid reference set so I can find individual squares faster.
Much more important than 3-D are the current issues
- fun game play. Don't your games always hit a tedious stage?
- tech trading
- balance between supporting builder and warmonger conquest play styles
- giving Air and Navy forces equal power with Army
- reviewing the entire tech tree
- creating easier customization. Players should have to ability to name, define and activate 5-10 user defined units/resources/wonders without adding mod packs.
- better game play information
No sense going on with a long list, the point is 3D would not automatically increase game fun. I turn off sound because 1) it bothers the family, 2) slows down the game, and 3) adds nothing to game play. Like chess, I would turn off 3D world to have 2D world.
Besides if you have a 3D world, how do you "zoom" out to see entire game? Do you have an ability to control the 4th D the rest of us don't have?

For the mini-map in a game with a spherical world, you could choose a projection from a list of Mercator, that other one that gives the continents in correct proportion with the wrong shape, or a north or south polar projection.
It's not as if civ3 has a very far zoom-out ability.
