Even though i miss Ode to Joy every time my cities celebrate, i'm way too lazy to put in there and i prefer to listen to other music while playing it.
the heralds are just annoying and the advisors being happy all the time eventually gets annoying.

just love those advisors sucking up about me beeing so good and great .
just a shame that I can't play the music decently...falls away if there is a diplomatic meeting or something else that needs the cd then afterward the program seems to be unable to find the cd for the music
(but I have enough music to listen to )

since the loss of music is evident... I made MP3s of the tracks, and of the wonder movie tracks as well, and copied the wonder movies into my civ2 folder as well, so I only need the CD for MGE

Being someone who gets amused very easily, I still use the disk for the movies and such...

I hardly ever use the CD, but until recently I did have the wonder movies copied to my HD. I'm not entirely sure if they're still there, I might have removed them... I have all graphics options turned off, except the movies, and I usually clicked them away immediately unless I was in the mood for it.
But I mostly play ToT (with crack) recently anyway, and that doesn't have any wonder movies.
By the way, if you play music while civing, is your civ2 sound also disabled? With Winamp you can't both play CD's or MP3's and have the Civ2 sounds, so I've been using the standard Windows CD-player lately, because with that I can have both, but I can't play MP3's then obviously.

I can only repeat it: I've got MP3s of wonder movies and CD tracks as well... and I copied those wonder AVIs onto my HDD too

Hello,
I am rather new to the Civ game, I just bought the game the other day, it came in a two disk case but with only one disk? Is the other side just for the map? I know this is a rather inane question but I just want to make sure that I am not missing anything.
Thanks

An easier manner is to hook up a stereo system in your computer room
-
Unix- did you buy Civ II or III... If you bought civ II then there is only one CD. Unless you bought some collectors edition or something of the sort.

Thanks DarkCloud, no this store right down the street from my house was going out of business and I saw it there. No box it was wrapped in the big two cd case. When I opened it there was the map, and one cd. Minimal documentation that did not mention anywhere about a second cd but I wanted to make sure.
Thank you!

Now I am intrigued - Map - what map??
Most copies of CivII come with a tech tree chart and land transformation chart - but a map!!?? Tell us more unix ...
No CD - I use a virtual CD drive so it can be in permanently - and if you use the Japanese VCD software you can have all the music too -- but I play LotR soundtrack on mp3

I always played with the CD on my old computer, because I like the wonder movies so much. The music and the council get repetitive, but I always made it a point to hold a council during anarchy. Repetitive or not, it's too funny to miss.

My apologies, that is what I was talking about the tech tree chart. Please excuse the fact that I am new but I will get it all down eventually! Sorry to raise any hopes!

I used the CD until I saw a few things a couple times.
The music is good, but I really dislike the Asian piece. Like nails on a chalkboard to me. I don't recall being able to disable specific songs... selecting them was possible, but eventually that noise would come back.
I got sick of the heralds bouncing when they asked me for a peace treaty.
The advisors were humorous for a little while. I turned them off after I saw most of their antics.

I still use the CD. No particular reason, just because I'm too lazy to get the crack. But one of these days, I'm going to do something about it, yep, sure am.

Where's the File?
Someone referred to a cracked file that allows one to play without the disk.
I have Civ II Gold (MP)...is there a crack for this and if so, where might I find it?

Well, that would be quite a reasonable option, since my stereo system stands right above my PC... The only problem is, the CD player is broken, so I have to use my PC to play any music at all.
I could just get the CD player fixed, of course, but I'm too lazy and too poor to bother.

You don't need a crack to play without it... If you don't have one, however, it will sometimes randomly crash and you ahve no music, advisors or wonder videos.

-Sounds fairly bad- those things cost a lot to repair.
Why don't you tape the CDs onto a tape; or listen to the radio

Only true for v2.42 - all the later variants insist upon the CD being in a drive ...

I voted no. I didn't use it for earlier versions, and although MGE needs a cd War4ever told me how much smoother the game runs with a cr*ck, and I've never used it since.
