He nearly did get caught - but the map suited his strat rather than mine. It was one of those worlds where there is a big continent split into 2 with a very narrow isthmus between. He went for the growth strat. I went for the stay in monarchy and overrun him strat. My troops got bottled on the isthmus - which of course I didn't know about. I changed to growth then but it was too late - game over for horsie - his tech lead was too great

I've wondered since what would have happened if I'd just kept in monarchy and swamped troops across the narrows...............

Well that's not what you said at the time - you couldn't have got across that isthmus any more than I could and since I hadn't concentrated on naval techs I was a sitting duck. Game over.

I'm not embarassed about it. I gambled. I lost.

Well if you look at it I lost a lot of boats. The rest were bombardment losses in coastal cities.

You'd have to look at the map to appreciate the situation. It was perfect for his growth strat because I couldn't get at him by land. So I ended up with a big army milling around uselessly. Then I conceded the game.

growth strat? You don't know what your talking about LOLOL. I never even came close to using that, if i had i would destroyed you before 2000 bc.

AH's arguement is BS, as you can see i started in one of the most horrible spots imaginable. I was going to surrender but i figured i would never hear the end of that. AH had 5 cities before i even had my second city built. anyways AH had a massive lead on the pg for most of the game, but once i got a semi decent civ together it went downhill for him rather fast. I sunk all his ships, crushed his defences then landed troops and destroyed his roads so he couldn't steal tech, thats when he begged me to make the pain stop. And the really funny thing is i lost more units to barbs then i did to AH. Its as if all his units commited sucide when they saw me coming. Honestly the newbies at the zone gave me more of a challange

Yes you're right Markusf. I'm a crap player.

And I'm sure you'll have no trouble disposing of me in any future games

Yes and all those losses were to frigate bombardment of cities. And he never lost a frigate. Funny that

I wouldn't go there horse Besides the casualty list doesn't go down as far as frigates.

Over 90% of those losses were to his frigates - how many did he lose? I had to evacuate my coastal cities. Its a relevant point.

And since I'm getting bashed quite cruelly and unfairly over 1 lousy game I'll take the debate wherever I damn well like.

The sad part is, I was happy to play him again. Not so sure if I'm going to have to put up with this crap every time I lose.

Another truth is that Markus quits a game at a highly advanced stage after losing just one city... then uses the 'c' word to justify it. People who quickly call others less than honest are a bit suspect themselves, possibly.

Markus is a mouth and a quitter when the going gets too hot.

Then turns around and says there's no 'challange' (sic) anymore yet wasn't prepared to play out that Touney game. He was so scared of his superficial reputaion being tarnished.

Markus is a scalp of mine now.. He's never beaten me. I've led him or equalled him in all pg's in games I've played him, except one. I helped force him into retirement for 6 months, he he Yes, I guess Makeo is correct.... I am a sneaky manipulative de-facto war-monger But you must draw a distinction between that and respect (or lack of it , Makeo!) and respect for each other as people... (Shutup War!)

AH has NEVER quit a game and rarely concedes. He's a true player that plays out the game even when all looks lost and then turns things around. He appreciates deviousness and that is part of the game.

Oh please, another thing i also forgot was your caravans could magically move over mountains hills and forests in one turn. You had something like 10 Alpine movement points for each caravan. Even after i told you to stop using the cheat you still did. With you in a game you have to post each and every single rule explicitly or you will just act like they don't exist.

This thread is getting interesting now, it would appear that some of the better players in the game feel the need to slag each other.
