Best/worst you've bought/best bargain/most disappointing/games youve bought
Assume for the time period. IE we all know SMAC was better than CivI, but CivI was best compared to other games from its time.
Best: Civilization II
Worst: Pharaoh
Best Bargain: Sid Meiers Gettysburg for 3 dollars
Most disappointing: Sim City 3000
Also, some additional categories:
Most overrated: Diablo II (haven't bought it, just played it)

I really ought to get around to playing planescape one of these days... That was also my main beef with Baldur's gate, although comparitively speaking it is still quite non-linear compared to most CRPGs, especially the second in the series.

M.U.L.E. is one of the all time best games if not the best. Here is a website that is dedicated to the game.
M.U.L.E. stands for multple-use labour element, and the thing looks a bit like one of those big-arse walkers from The Empire Strikes Back. The game itself, however, is totally non-violent. Up to 4 human players can play the Atari version and 2 on the Commodore 64.
I will leave the exact description of the game out - I am sure you can find it on the website. The game itself is one of excellent design. All the elements are tightly woven. There is no surefire strategy to win. All apporaches work. Also, there is no clear winner most of the time, Flip flop can occur in one turn.
What is the most outstanding feature, however, is the players must cooperate to win. That's right, they have to compete yet cooporate at the time time. Cut-throat competition will cause everybody to lose.
This is the game I used to play almost every night during my undegrad years when school was in progress. The good thing is you can conclude the game in an hour.

While I said that Tiberian Sun was the most disappointing game I can see where the "overrated" comes from. All previews said only good things about the game and presented beautiful fake screenshots (good Photoshop job Westwood ) so the game was overrated even before it came out.

I can't believe that anyone even remembers this game. It is my all time favorite as well (circa 1982). By the way, I had the commodore 64 version and 4 could play as well.
I'm still not believing that no one has done anything similar since then. It did have a steep learning curve. We never did too much cooperation and it usually took us more than an hour to complete. Any cool memory there.

Actually I've read somewhere that a remake of M.U.L.E. is going to be made.
*searches the web*
Here, it is called Space HoRSE:
http://shrapnelgames.com/gilligames/Space_HoRSE/
Couldn't they have at least improved the graphics?
