Assume for the time period. IE we all know SMAC was better than CivI, but CivI was best compared to other games from its time.

Best: Civilization II
Worst: Pharaoh
Best Bargain: Sid Meiers Gettysburg for 3 dollars
Most disappointing: Sim City 3000

Most overrated: Diablo II (haven't bought it, just played it)
Most overrated genre: 1st person shoot em up (haven't bought any, just seen them.)

Best : Jagged Alliance 2 (3 years after its release I heavn't found one game that tops this piece of art)

Worst: Baldurs Gate (After playing Fallout 1 and 2 and Planescape: Torment I wondered how Black Isle could make this piece of crap..Why the hell am I forced to play as a good guy??)

Best bargain: Call to Power II ( I got this one for 99 SEK~10 US $)

Most dissapointing and overrated: Black and White (For some reason this game is no fun..no fun at all)

and @Osweld: Have you seen GI Combat , its from the makers of Close Combat....

I really ought to get around to playing planescape one of these days... That was also my main beef with Baldur's gate, although comparitively speaking it is still quite non-linear compared to most CRPGs, especially the second in the series.

Worst: Geometry Blaster. Uninstalled and in the garbage three days after I installed (and completed) it.
Best bargain: Diablo I-- found it for only $10! That and King's Quest VI (came free with my old computer, for some odd reason).

Overrated: RTS (real time is 1 day = 1 day isn't it?)

EDIT: MULE is also one of the best games I ever played, along with Rogue.

While I said that Tiberian Sun was the most disappointing game I can see where the "overrated" comes from. All previews said only good things about the game and presented beautiful fake screenshots (good Photoshop job Westwood

) so the game was overrated even before it came out.

I can't believe that anyone even remembers this game. It is my all time favorite as well (circa 1982). By the way, I had the commodore 64 version and 4 could play as well.

I'm still not believing that no one has done anything similar since then. It did have a steep learning curve. We never did too much cooperation and it usually took us more than an hour to complete. Any cool memory there.
