Office of the Ministry of Trade
Office of the Ministry of Trade and Chancellor of the Treasury- 200 AD.
We have:
1 Caravan (Silk), demanded by Rome.
1 Caravan (Jewellry), no longer demanded by Rome, demanded by India.
1 Caravan (Spice), no longer demanded by anyone nearby.
3 Caravans, goods not in demand except far away, and cheap goods at that.
Silk- Rome. Send it to Rome.
Rome no longer demands Jewellry or Spice Do we keep these caravans for wonders or send it to India? I suggest we send the jewellry to India and keep the spice for the wonder (wherever it's being built). Marquis, if this is too much of a mess, tell me and we'll just keep both for the wonder. I'll poll on this after I hear some opinions.
3 New Carvans- Build them for wonders? The goods are in demand in areas to far away to ferry them in a trireme in my opinion. If not, we can always ferry them to America, Egypt or India, but I think this will cause too much of a disruption to our shipping lanes, so we're better off keeping them in storage for wonders. Opinons? I'd like to hear from Marquis.
Meanwhile, stock up on the money, because we're low on it.

Good ideas, all of them. I think the silk should go to Rome, the Jewelry and Spices should go to India. The other 3 can be used for wonders.

You're the advisor; you sound like you know what you're talking about. I agree.

What about the availability of Triremes? I agre with sending the two demanded caravans overseas, but if that offends our expansion or military advisors then there is a problem.

El Awrence propositions
I agree for delivering caravans for trade, but only if goods are demanded !
Stack others for future WoW.
About shipping, we need better boats than trirems : let us discover navigation and build caravels !

Trade only the goods in demand with reasonably accessible destinations. (That would be Silk and Gems.) All others (4?) prep for Wonder production (Mike's, we hope).
If available, send dips with trade ships to gain embassies and/or bribe away any trouble they encounter etc.

I think you ought to set your trade commodities back to the game defaults to avoid confusion...
The spice caravan is now demanded by Babylon. Tho we haven't found that city, we have seen Ashur - Babylon will surely be within a few squares of that. Spice has a big payoff return, I suggest we deliver it! By sailing thru Citadel, it will only take 5 turns or so to get there.
As for the others, I think we ought to deliver the silk to Rome. Again, good payoff.
The beads to India may not pay well. However, if we go that direction to tip huts anyway, we may as well deliver the caravan.

BTW, the plan to save new caravans for wonder building is good. Maybe only deliver those that bring a higher return - silk, spice, dye, and the like. Save hides, food, and such for wonders.

Here's a trick that may work - it usually does for me in Civ2.
Go to the Find City option and choose Babylon. Even though we haven't found it, since we know about it, the map will centre on where the city is, and we can know whether or not Babylon is easily reachable!

I like the ideas Marquis, particularly Babylon. I'll poll tonight for 24 hours if our president is so impatient, because otherwise he can play Sunday.
