No, I'm not.
However, I'm fully prepared to make the other bastard die for his country though.

By "die for your country" are you talking about a situation where the very existence of my country is under threat? Or is a broader question, which would include any war my country gets into? I believe there is a distinction. Also, are you asking whether or not we would risk death in defence of our countries, or whether or not we would knowingly sacrifice our lives - 100% aforeknowledge that you will die?
If my country was under genuine threat of destruction, I would certainly fight to defend it, thus risking death. I don't know if I would knowingly sacrifice my life - that would probably be a "heat of battle" thing, not a premeditated act. Then again, it all depends on the circumstances. One never really knows how one will react to a given situation until it happens.
Just remember the old lie - "Dulce et decorum est, pro patria mori" [paraphrase of a very bitter poem written by a British WWI soldier]
-Arrian

A resounding 'no'. I am not willing to die for other people, for their greed and imperialist claims, over other people who are pushed into the situation. It is the elite who win, not the common man.

So basically you want to eat the cake and save it at the same time? It figures...

Kramat,
In that case, my answer is a qualified "yes." Like I said, I would sign up & fight if the U.S. were under serious threat of destruction (subjective, I know). However, I won't be joining the Army to take part in any lesser (for lack of a better word) war, even if I support its aims.

I absolutely agree.
However, if Greece was attacked I'd go even though I disagree strongly.
In such an event, my only wish would be to have lived a as possible full life as I could before going to war and possibly dying there.

... or something like that, anyway. you can't beat an english secondary school education for tedious WWII poems.
on topic: hmmm, i dunno. i don't even like my country that much. however, since all my friends and family live here (and i would certainly die for them) i would fight if we were ever invaded.

Dulce et Decorum... was a WWI poem Frustrated Poet. Either by Wilfred Owen or Siegfried Sassoon (I always get those two mixed up).

"Country" is only that that is made up of "people".
Note the differences between;
Prepared to die and Looking to die.

Not really.
I am, however, fully prepared to send Wiglaf to die for my country. Too bad he's a DL.

If Saddam lands an amphibious division on Miami Beach, yes I will fight to the death. But don't ask me to go to Iraq and topple his government. Don't even ask me to go "liberate" Kuwait or Saudi Arabia. Saddam hasn't done anything to America other than pose a threat; a threat of a unified, strong, economically powerful Arab nation. I will die to defend my nation but not to defend my nation's hegemony. Peace out.

If only we could send DLs into battle. An infinite supply of irritating trolls, and when wave after wave dies off we could just create new ones. With our massive supply of Wiglafs, the US would be unconquerable.

You are right Larvaman, but, we can't all be on the same side on apolyton, so it would be a DL war. The question is, which half is the most irritating. Hehe
