It doesn't matter if Activision screw up.. but..
If Firaxis screws up, it can kiss its arse goodbye if you ask me.
I wouldn't take ANY risks Firaxis, especialy with Civ3.

Well, being a rather small company, Firaxis no doubt takes its situation very seriously. This, I believe, was one of the driving forces behind dropping the Dino project: Why risk a Dino game when you have the Cash Cow of all Cash Cows waiting to be horded by the public?
To date, Sid's Civil War Games and (essentially) Brian's SMAC have exceeded sales forecasts for Firaxis. On the other hand, they've had to carefully balance expanding their number of employees and floor space, since most gaming companies are just a flop or two away from being kicked out of the building (Activision-like juggernaughts aside).
One thing is for sure: They will NOT release a horrible Civ3. A bland one? Perhaps. One with some serious bugs (at least as far as the hard-core player is concerned)? Possible. But anything that will seriously hamper sales? Virtually impossible. If you ask me, Civ3 is a kind of "get out of jail free" card. It will sell well without a doubt.
It's the NEXT game that could make or break Firaxis.

Just a redone shot of the land screenshot released by cgw
How I would like to see Civ, I wanted to do heaps more, but I've got to go out now. If I get a lot of positive input on this look, I'll keep going, coz there's lots more I'd like to see.
And I know that the shot is probably an ancient shot and they've done loads more, but I just want to make sure that Firaxis don't fail. The more ideas the better =o)

I just wanted to say that I can't stand the fact the land is all 'squared'
the edges of each different terrain don't merge together properly.
If needed, I would have one huge tile that had just the merging of the two different terrain types, rather than using the edges to merge it.
The game doesn't need tiled land! The units can moved in a tiled sense, but the land doesn't have to be tiled!

One more thing, make the earth LIVE
Not like CTP, where they move just the resources
Give the land life.
When you zoom out far enough you can look down on the clouds, and the clouds can rain, so the clouds will judge what is dry and what is wet.
Because weather is a HUGE aspect of civilization. So add it. I know it's a lot, but it's so important.
I would also make the ocean tides come in and out slightly, and make the rivers go up and down slightly. Just to add life to the map. It's tiny things like that, which will make the game No#1 again. It's a lot of artwork, but for God's sake, If I was the artist, I would be doing it.
