Lord Of The Rings Scenario
Is anyone here working on a LOTR scenario? I've been thinking of doing one for awhile but don't have any decent unit graphics to use for it. Does anyone have any suitable graphics that could be used?

Good luck.
I've been thinking(!) of doing one for about 8 months, in which time I've seen two failed attempts at one in CtP2, and three in Civ3. But lucky for anyone else trying, I have stored all the dregs that survived, and followed up a million ways of getting more unit and city graphics out.
So I can point you to this page here http://www.weaver1.btinternet.co.uk/...tp2tolkien.htm
where you can find dwarf and (I think) elf city sprites, and some fantasy units. I have attached the targa files for the units on. I am also slowly working towards getting some Orc, goblin and wolf-rider sprites out of HoM&M, and have spoken to a guy working on a Civ3 scenario about hobbit and some other unit graphics.
In addition, I think iskallin has done a Mordor city style, but hasn't posted in a few days, so I'm waiting...
In the meantime, check out the demon sprite in the Samurai scenario, the generals in Alex scenario (for Gondor hero units) and Tom Davies Chariot unit (for Wainriders)
There may be more, I forget... Have you found Omni's Middle Earth map?

Thanks for the links! The Wombat units download link doesn't work BTW. I've got a map of Middle Earth downloaded from Apolyton and it looks fairly acurate.
Have you played the LOTR scenario for Civ2? It was really good and I think I'll use some of the idea's used in it when doing this. One unit they had on the Civ2 one was a unit representing the Ring, do you know of any graphics that could be used as a ring?

Oh yeah, I made a ring sprite too.
I played Harlan's Civ2 scen, yeah, but I don't think my version of Civ2 supported the events, so I ended up allying with Mordor, walking Frodo to Mount Doom, and then going to war again.
btw, the fantasy.zip works for me...

With user name Turambar... Turin?
Maybe a Silmarilion scenario would be more appropriate

For some reason the attatched zips don't download as zips but somthing called attatchment. Anyone know what's going on?
I'd love to do a Silmarilion scenario but I've no map and I think it would be rather difficult considering all the events that happened in the first age. Have you played the Silmarillion scenario for Civ 2? It was based on the battle of suddern flame and was pretty good but my version too didn't support events.

Maybe you should check the links on your homepage there are some of them that don't work e.g the link to player1's mods. I guess btinternet.co.uk uses a Linux server for their private homepages and Linux is case sensitive. By the way if you didn't test you homepage with any other browser than Internet ?xplor?r than you should do it, I for example use Nestcape 4.5, Netscape 6.2 and Opera 6 and try to avoid ?I.

You can get around this by simply adding the extension '.zip' after file name 'attatchment', this will create the zip file so winzip will recognise it

I know. I tested it with Netscape a few weeks ago on another PC, and it didn't display at all. I think I'll leave it like that to annoy those people who refuse to conform to M$

There are really 3 facets to a Silmarillion scenario:
i. Valinor.
ii. 2nd Age Beleriand
iii. 2nd Age - The Akallabeth
I think you could do ii. & ii. in one scenario... i. would be another scenario.
Without getting caught up in trying to replicate events etc though... it would just be great being able to represent the different elvish & Dwarf houses as different races... the heraldic symbols could be used to identify similar troop types from the houses etc.
The forces of Morgoth would be interchangeable with the forces of Sauron & Saruman.

I put .zip on the end and they now work thanks!
I think a Silmarillion scenario would be good set around either the Battle of Suddern Flame or the Battle of Unumbered Tears or the War of Wrath. These events give Morgoth a shed load of units to attack with which aren't held back by the elves, like Orcs, Balrogs, Dragons etc. The Civs could be(like in the Civ2 scen):
1) Fingolfins Noldor: The elves of Mithrim, Gondolin, Nargothrond etc.
2) Sons of Feanor: The Noldor round the March of Maedhros, the hill of Himring and East Beleriand.
3) The Sindar: Thingols elves and Cirdan at the Falas
4) Ossariand (sp?): The green elves.
5) Dwarves:
6) The Edain: All the men in Beleriand
7) Morgoth
These could be expanded upon depending upom map size etc. Certain first age events could be worked in using SLIC.
A second age scenario involving Numenor I think would be harder.
But for now I think I'll just work on a LOTR one.

OK I think I've put the files from the fantasyunits zip in the right places but I've tried editing some of the text files to get them working but I just get error messages. What files exactly do I have to create/edit to get the units in a scenario?

Martin, stop spamming the LotR thread
Turambar, to add units you need to edit:
default/gamedata/
units.txt - the main unit entry, all abilities and stats REQUIRED
newsprite.txt - the reference to which sprite you want to use REQUIRED
uniticon.txt - the graphic and great library reference for that unit REQUIRED
english/gamedata/
gl_str.txt - the name in text form RECOMMENDED
Great_Library.txt - the details, history and fact about the unit USEFUL but not strictly necessary. If you include references in uniticon.txt add the correct lines (copy existing format) but leave blanks
default/aidata/
UnitBuildLists.txt - needed for any units you want the AI to build, otherwise they will just ignore them NECESSARY (for base units like rhohan riders, mordor orcs etc. not wanted for Gandalf etc.)

Thanks. I figured out what to edit today but it keeps crashing when I tried to load up a scenario with the edited units in. I'll keep trying though. I got the cities to work though.
