Anyone for a new SMAC/X PBEM game?
Kinda getting bored waiting around for the turns on my other games.
Whether it's SMAC or SMACX, I'll take the Hive.
Everyone else except the aliens of course, are up for grabs.

Well, we got 4 players now, so all we need is a CMN.
I'll try asking the person that made my other game, but first, I suggest we come up with the settings.
I'll just list some, and you guys say what you want or don't want.
Large Map
Flexible Starting Locations
Erosion, Native Life, Clouds - average
All victory conditions are on
Look First: On
Tech Stag: Off
Spoils of War: Off
Intense Rivalry: Off
Directed Research (pick your own techs)
No Unity Survey (map not visible)
Pods are scattered
No Random Events
Time Warp: Off
Iron Man: On (doesn't matter in PBEM)

Qantaga has agreed to be the CMN for this game. He's already made a great map from another game I'm playing, so there's no doubt he'll be a great CMN.
Right now he's having trouble with the boards, but he'll post as soon as he's fixes it.
KrysiasKrusader, just how much of a newbie are you? Can you beat the computer on Transcend?

I can beat the computer on trascend (with Blind Research turned on) with all the factions except for the Spartans !?
I have also completed a OCC with the Gains.
I will require guidance with the procedures on conducting a multiplayer game though, witch may tax your patience... since you all seem to be experienced...
Thanks for replying.

You sound a lot like me when I first started PBEM's 4 months ago! For help on pushing a PBEM turn, Dreifels has a website where he captured screenshots of each screen for pushing a PBEM turn:
http://mitglied.lycos.de/smac/index.html
Also, the Civgaming site (which is also another good site to register for PBEM SMAC(X) games) has a lot of good info about population-booming, tech bee-lining, early game attack strategies, etc., which is extremely usfeul against higher caliber players :
http://www.civgaming.net/forums/foru...?s=&forumid=15
Also, if your interested in a "friendly" Head to Head (H2H) game, let me know. I'm at dnandal@twcny.rr.com
Regardless, good luck!

Hello everyone,
I am happy to act as CMN for your game. My profile was temporarily lost when 'Poly switched to their new web address, but things are fixed for me now.
It looks like you are almost set.
Here's what I see so far:
SMAC game:
smhfan86 - Hive
Arnathalon - Gaians
t_ras - Peacekeepers
zergling_zzh - Believers
I would think that KrysiasKrusader is more than qualified to play. The only question is do the original four mind a fifth player or not?
I will give it a couple more days for all of you to comment on the game settings that smhfan86 has proposed and to work out any other game details. I will start working on a map for you.
Please feel free to ask any questions of me, but this is your game, so I will leave the game settings discussions to the players.

I'm fine with a 5th player. Just hope the turns are fast though.
As a rule, I'd like to propose that everyone post at the turn tracking thread whenever they send their turn off.
This way we can all know where the turn is, and whether or not a turn needs to be re-sent.

Five player games are a lot of fun. Some of my most enjoyable games have been five player games. However, to keep it succesful, everyone should be willing to commit to one turn per day. Of course, real life intrusions will come up from time to time, but the one turn per day commitment level really is important to keep the game moving.
I have one issue for you all to think about. With five players, the two AI factions will only provide an advantage for the players closest to them on the map. So, I propose one of the two following options:
1. I can beef up the AI significantly so that they will not be pushovers for the first faction that finds them.
-or-
2. I can eliminate them altogether from the game.

I think it'd be best if you just eliminated the AI from the game altogether. That way we got more secret projects to work with.
As far as one turn per day, I'd like that too, but usually it doesn't happen. I can promise that I'll play the turn once I get it, like I always do.
p.s. we need to know what faction KrysiasKrusader wants.
oh, and we need to list our emails. mine's callistosdarkside@rogers.com

oh, one more thing, could you give everyone an extra scout and colony pod to start with? I like how it sped things up in the other game you made.

Ah, smhfan86, you have hit the nail on the head. In reality, one turn per day will not truly happen, but as long as each player commits that they can play a turn, should it arrive, at least once a day, then the game tends to stay at a good pace.
And I will gladly give everyone an extra colony pod and scout to accelerate the start.

Great ! Thanks for letting me in.
Sorry for the delay in answering, my hard drive got mulched two days ago...
Have spent all this time reconfiguring everything from scratch !
I'll take the UNIVERSITY
This is my first attempt at playing real opponents, and I'm worried about doing away with the AI factions...
I will check for turns twice a day - if thats O.K. with you guys.

True Qantaga, the Alam game's(5 players) 2x faster than my other game with only 4 players. go figure.
Glad to see we'll get an early boost.
Now there's the question of rules. I think it best if we play by the rules posted here http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=14379
p.s. I think we should play by the rule of "Communications only allowed between factions that have obtained each others' commlink frequencies in-game." Rather than communicating from the start.
what do u guys think?

that's the person that makes the game, in this case, Qantaga. Although, we can ignore the rule where he has to play a turn for someone else.
Oh yeah, we still need the email adresses from all the players.

Okay, we're almost ready. I will have the game out this weekend. I would have it sooner, but I have a very long and hectic workday tomorrow.
Just a few more things that I will need:
1. Anathalon's e-mail address.
2. If any of you want a specific password for the game, you can send it to me at Qantaga@aol.com Otherwise, I will just randomly assign you a password.
3. A final decision on the AI. All I have is smhfan86 wanting them eliminated and KK's concern about eliminating them. That is not much of a consensus for a pretty big issue. If I don't hear anything else about the AI, I will make the final decision as I look around the map. Truly though, in a game like this, the AI either needs to be eliminated or they need to be very strong so that they don't immediately roll over to the first faction that finds them.
Other than that, the game should be ready within a couple of days.

I haven't seen zergling_zzh post since his initial one. Do u have his email address?
also, when Qantaga says he'll make the AI strong, he means strong! so they'll take up the first few secret projects right away. that's why i prefer it remain all human.
