Do you have MGE or FW?
Am I correct in assuming that everyone has MGE by now? (either aquired commercially or via Cedric Greene's 'patch')

I am not sure what this new 'quick reply' feature is, but I will use it here. I own both. However, I was unaware when I bought FW that you need to have an original CivII to upgrade to. So, FW is still in its box, and MGE is what I use to play and build things.

I have both - and both via the patches at CivFanatics. The only thing I ever bought was the original Civ2. FW and MGE are impossible to find in stores now anyway.
Quick reply... zooooom!

I do have a "patched" copy, but I usually play and develop in real FW so that's what I voted for.

FW (and ToT of course ). Don't really trust non-official patches too much.

NEVER seen MGE anywhere in Oz or NZ. Was it less widely available or something? CiC was everywhere here, but finding FW was a bit of luck for me.

In Aus/NZ it was released as the "Ultimate civ2" edition or something akin to it.
I've only ever seen one copy and didn't have time to get it when I saw it. Wasn't there an hour later...
CiC/FW are/were fairly widely available I think. A secondhand software outlet closeby still gets them in on a semi-regular basis.

I've got both installed separately; my MGE version is from Cedric Greene's patch and is a bit buggy on my computer for some reason, so I still rely on FW unless it isn't possible to convert the scenario.

So after 36 hours of voting it seems that 77.78% have MGE
That settles the question of what version of Civ I'll making stuff for

I have a "patched" version of FW. All I ever bought was 2.42. I've never even seen MGE or FW for sale, so I'll patch away. What drawbacks could I expect from switching to MGE, since everyone but me uses it?

Drawbacks of MGE:
Objective x3 cities don't work
AI is apparently more aggressive
Need to insert the Civ2 CD to play it

A newly reported drawback
@DEBUG statement doesn't work in events file.
And another one I've noticed.
You can change governments in MGE even with the No government switching on. Most of the time the flag works, as the REVOLUTION selection is grayed out. However, when discovering the government techs, you get the do you want to change govt. prompt. This does not happen in FW. To me that's a bug.
