Patch 1.21f out this Friday!
Woohoo
Finally another patch, what do you think it will contain?
Personally I hope for a better scenario/map editor!

A moment to be thankful
Despite all of my criticismsof Civ3, I am thankful that Firaxis continues to support the game. One could go on and on about not releasing a game before its time, but unlike wines, computer games are easily fixed in patches. The company could have decided to pursue other projects (like silly RTS oxymoronic games) and just forgotten all about fixing Civ3. It could be worse. Civ3 could be an RPG and we all know how they fix game mechanics. (Can we say 3rd edition )
Besides, if Civ3 was perfect, we'd have nothing to complain about in these forums.

No MP yet. Read the next item.

I like it when Firaxis produces patches at a regular pace (every 2 months). Maybe MP will come in a patch the 06/14 ?

And Firaxis, if you were still busy correcting Civilopedia typos: Just don't mention it in the readme.

Would listing typo corrections be required by disclosure regulations? It would make more sense to not admit to such mistakes but they might not have a choice.

WOW!!!
Just imagine all the changes - the last patch we had was 1.17f and that was a considerable improvement on 1.16f.
Maybe it'll take up the last of my sleep time again, have my children and cook too!
Here's thinking positively.

I too am glad that Civ3 is still being supported. It really pissed me off when activision dropped support of ctp2 after just a few months. There are a ton of things I'd like to do with civ3 but have been waiting for patches to make them possible.

The biggest problem with these damn patches is that its a b**ch having to re do all my mods, especially the tech tree graphics. Lets hope there's no more

The 1.21 includes that Aircraft sinking Ships thing, that I know. No MP yet, though they've almost finished it. They haven't yet decided as to whether will MP be a free download or not.

Just got word from Jeff Morris:
Unless there is a last minute issue, we’ll release the readme.txt this Wednesday (4/17/02) and the patch on Friday (4/19/02). It’s v1.21f.

Must be lots of changes to have that much of a version jump.
Hopefully there will be a chat.
Looks like my weekend is shot - gonna probably spend it all on the computer instead of in the garden. Oh well.

I think that they will create an expansion pack for it. If it´ll be an paid EP, can be a good thing, because, to sell it well, it will probably be an excelent thing with new civs, units techs, etc.

On second thought, I'd like to see that Firaxis took a look at the more popular mods and included some of the most common changes (i.e. more productive specialists, somewhat faster naval units) in the official game version.

Not really, they've said that they increase the version number every time they send the patch to QA. This means that the first three versions of the patch contained bugs they had to fix. So actually there's probably less changes the more they increase the number, since they had to use time fixing bugs in the patch instead of the game.
I'm not trying to be negative here or anything, I'm as glad as anyone else every time they release a patch

Cesa has a very good point.
Very high expectations can lead to very great disappointment.
I wonder if it is *the* editor patch though. Have to wait till Wed. for clues.

I think that they have to create, as was said, more ships, when i play, i just build battleships, rarely destroyers, ´cause the other ships are weak!!!

I'm also glad that the game is still supported. Civ3 gave me in the past 5 months many hours of great games, but I must admit, at the same time enough frustration as well. Although I always could live with bombers not sinking ships, there are a lot of other things that could be improved.
The only bad thing about the new patch is, now that everyone has worked out his killer strategy for 1.17f, everything will change again . But that's life, that's Civ3.
FYI: There's not even a localized 1.17f yet for the German version. I'm so glad I bought the English one. While Firaxis works on the game , Infogrames seems to be busy counting money .

Wouldn't it make more sense for Infogrames to translate the final one? What's the point in going back to translation again every 2 months?
That's been my feeling about modding. I don't want to look into it too far until I have the final product. OTOH, I'm sure that korn, Gramphos, Player1, and company have given them as much or more to think about than the rest of us combined. Good thing they have the time. Yeeeah for the modders.

So Soon! TOO Soon!
NOOOO!!!
I haven't finished my first game with 1.17 yet!
Started this game about 6 weeks ago, after I had finished a game that I updated to 1.17 with in mid-stride.
Huge map, 16 civs, large continents.
It's only about 1600 AD, now.
