You don't remember the loyal subjects of the empire putting the drubs to a certain well known American poster. He was a very good sport about it.

2. Planes will now be able to attack ships.
3. Research will be viable on the higher difficulty levels.
4. The editor will contain more stuff.
Things that will remain unchanged:
1. ICS will still be exploitable
2. Corruption will still be as prevalent.

What do I think? Lets see...
1) AI will still suck
2) Tech whoring will still exist
3) Corruption will still cripple every normal empire (+10 cities or so)
4) No MP
5) Late game tedium remains
6) B!tch
7) Whine
8) etc...
Face it guys, this game can´t be patched good

Yeah, but late game tedium is pretty much intrinsic in any turn-based strategy game. You've got more units to move, more cities to manage and more territory to monitor while at the same time the game is generally less of a challenge because you're pulling away from the competition (or pounding them into the dirt). It's just part of the game, and there is no more a patch for it than for "late race fatigue" for marathon runners.

The late game tedium (LGT) has been extensively covered in this forum, (by Velocyrix and Libertarian among others). LGT-level for Civ3 is waaay higher than in any other turn-based game I´ve played. ´nuff said...

Well, yeah. MoO3 seems to be going down the drain as well But no way in hell I´m gonna buy it. I´ll get the cracked version first and then decide. I will not make the Civ3 mistake again...

I have come to assume nothing about the patches. Its hard to say what they will fix/alter. Though, I tend to agree about the Corruption PROBLEM.

LGT(Late Game Tedium) could be diminished by making the A.I. more willing to build space ships. Late game A.I. has no will to win so the game gets more tedious than necessary. The A.I. also could avoid Communism and play much better to make more of a competition.
I think that A.I. tech whoring will be adressed.
Improving bombard A.I would surprise me because it's not easy to implement.

i hope they will employ some of player 1's ideas from the mod, slow the techs and reshuffle them a bit, it is realistic to have SDI before alpha centauri ship. also, spaceship should have coulple of very expensive components, as it is now, it is very easy to build.
also, un needs a rehaul unless it still begs to be turned off all the time
oh christ, i am in belgrade on friday, on my (theoretically) 33K connection (effectively 5K). That means 1 hr of download

I take it that while you are waiting for MOO3 you have never played MOO the original. That game was exeeding tedious towards the end with massive fleets that were only limited in size by the signed two byte integer limit of 2^15.
Civ3 is nowwhere like that kind of tedious except maybe for the people insist on playing on a huge map with their 350 MH celerons and 64 megs of ram machines.
Of course I was playing MOO on the biggest galaxies then. Now I know better.

WILL THIS PATCH HAVE SPECIFY PLAYER STARTING LOCATION?
Also, would someone kindly tell me if I am right by assuming downloading v1.21f or whatever this new patch is called will be fine, even though I do not have v1.17f. Thank you.

What should be in the patch?
I hope this include movies for building wonders. They don't even have to make new ones. Just use the ones already on the "net". For example, for Pyramid Construction they could use the Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee video.
I was also thinking cathedrals should have a 50/50 chance of being good or bad depending on the priest...if he is a pedophille..morale and productivity go down.
I also hope they include suicide bombers.
We the fans should get realism...not fantasy.

I played on standard maps and I have a PIII 500 and 192 Mb RAM. LGT is not about the speed of the play, rather about that late in the game there is not much to do but move an obscene amount of settlers around and not that many improvements to build among other things.

It's around 1880 AD or so in my current game, and all but one computer player is at war with me, I'm in 3rd place score-wise, and the Japanese have been slowly grinding me into the dirt for the past 50 years, and I just started to push them back! Boring? No! Does it resemble World War I? Very much so, rofl!
(I'm defending with 3-5 veteran or elite infantry per city, and using infantry for attacking until I get Tanks in about 10 turns... Japan was attacking with hordes of cavalry and some samuri and a few infantry.)
Oh yeah, here's something that probably needs fixing. I sent some Infantry on "special missions" - I sent them deep into Japanese territory, and fortified them on the Japaneses' Strategic Resources. They didn't even bother attacking said Infantry. I guess they have all their forces committed to the war, eh?

I'm hoping for a tweak to the AI tech trading. They've already indicated there will be optional "bombard kills units." I doubt we will get any more corruption changes.
Hopefully (though I'm not holding my breath), the editor will be improved, including the ability to specify start locations.
As for late game tedium... I've gotta agree that any turn based strat game will have a certain amount of it. Ever played MOO2? The sheer number of things to build... yeesh. I remember having a single battle that took half an hour (the first ten minutes I handled, then I turned it over to the computer). All the planet building, terraforming, mining... it took forever. Yet, for some reason, I did it.
Civ II had late-game tedium. I remember trying to max out my score, moving 300+ engineers around turning siberia into farmlanded grassland. I still have a game saved somewhere in the 20th century that I'm simply unwilling to finish off.
So as far as I'm concerned, CivIII has an acceptable amount of tedium. Clearly, since I'm still playing it.

I just hope they won't do like in previous patches and restrict the possibilities even more to close a loophole (aka "how to generate two bugs while patching one" syndrome).

You'd think they've made so many bugs by now, that this patch will be all the original source code fixed. Patch size 650MB.

Sounds like how long it took me to download the 150 some MB single player AvP2 demo. If only my cable company supported cable modems. My constantly stupid 14888 bps connections on a 56K modem are more irratating that getting into a MPP with a civ that declares war on someone the next turn.
