Unofficial Poll 1: Do you want to keep the Demographics page in Civ2?
The question here is do you want to keep the Demographics system from Civ2. Also, if someone from the FIRAXIS teams reads this, could them explain the formulae for finding things such as birthrate, military service and land area.

Yes... I loved looking at it and getting a "feel" for the differences between the civs.

Absolutely!! the line graph just didnt cut it for me. i wanted to know EVERY detail of where i stood in comparision to my enemies/friends. if i wasnt #1 it gave an extra something to work for before i won the game.

I want graphs galore. It doesn't matter that I know I'm ahead by a mile - I still love seeing it on 20 different types of graph.

Definately keep it!
""It doesn't matter that I know I'm ahead by a mile - I still love seeing it on 20 different types of graph."" Couldn't agree more.
Mind you the best way to see this is the map with terrortory changing colours as in Civ I and SMAC. For me that was the best 'Diagnostic' of your civ status. You really feel the ebb and flow of the game.
The demographics screen was a great thing too.

We would have some "culture" graphics, probably.
As we know, thanks to recent "leak of info", we'll have different culture level according to "kind of city improvement we build" and "how early we build it".
Just mentioning someone:
Militar (city walls, barrack)
Trade (marketplace, bank)
Religion (temple, cathedral)
Entertainment (colosseum, theatre)
Health (acqueduct, sewer system, hospital)
Food (granary)
Science (library, university)
Of course we should have more dynamic events influencing game, too: how many wars we fighted, how much we spend in research or luxury...
May be thematic maps will be added to usual "bars and lines", to better show cultural dominance over the world.
Others graphs options will be welcome, while a feature to export data to MS Excel sheets seems a bit too much

At the risk of being the odd one out here... NO, throw it away! I've managed to win at Deity level without ever looking at the demographics screen. Waste of space. Just enjoy the game!

I for one like the Demographics list in Civ2 and have used it many times while I play the game - So I hope they keep it or have something similiar to it in Civ3.

Ack! He's not conforming with the majority!
In my view, the screen is not so much something you "need" to win, but rather something that helps those of us who play Civ for fun to get a feel of our empires. In addition, such a screen would help if the idea of "evolving civilization" was used (i.e. lots of temples and cathedrals at the start would mold your culture into a very religious one, etc.).
It's not really a waste of space, since it has no real graphics and uses very simple algorithms to compute. We're talking probably less that .1% of the game, so there is no reason to trash it.

Cyclotron makes a good point. The dempgraphics screen adds to the overall civ experience...it's not really a tool you employ to win the game!!

You think I don't play Civ for fun? That's the only reason I play it! (And anyone who plays it for any other reason needs their head read!) It's because I don't want to spoil the fun that I don't waste time poring over dry-as-dust statistics!
(Er... just stirring a little, you know? )

Well then, as long as we are talking about spoiling fun... Don't spoil it for the rest of us! Since it is not necessary to even open the window once, just don't do it if you don't like it! We like it, so leave it in for us!
If Firaxis doesn't put it in, it'll be all your fault Ikuul

Well keep it, but...
Base the results only on other civs that you currently have an embassy with. Another reason to establish one.

Keep It!
I enjoy looking at the demographics screen, and for throne room lovers, it's a good way to gauge the next upgrade.
but then again, I listen to my high council, too...
I know there's a bunch of hardcores out there who don't look at the throne room, listen to the highcouncil or check their advisors. The never watch the wonder movies or spend time looking at their spaceship.
But I do. I think it's fun.
Don't like the heralds, though.

I think this is one of the most original features in Civilisation
but I think a message window should pop up when your ranking changes
in one of the demographic statistics, to show when you've become most
productive for example.
Also why not have more stats in the demog. screen, like
Biggest metropolises -for having lots of large cities
Best infrastructure- for having good city improvements-banks,supermarkets,library/schools etc and road networks
Most popular Tourist destination-tourist industries are a big reveune earner
Best Movie Produced(well maybe not, but it would be fun)
I also think some kind of historical RECORDER is vital, to show the history
of your game at the end (game over).. as a text file maybe like civ1 had- I seem to remember.
