Attachmen of graphics problems
It seems that all attachment files that are graphics, are not being sent properly to the browser, and when I try to save any picture that is attached, it defaults to BMP format, and can't be changed to it's real format (gif/jpg).
That is very annoying. It could possibly result from the failure of attachment.php sending TYPE: gif/image or jpeg/image or what ever code it has to send before actually sending the file to the browser.
Speaking of which, I also had problems saving ZIP files from the Civ3 section.
All of these problems are not unique to me, and most people seem to share them.

I'm having the problem too. (IE6, Win98)
But apparently it isn't a universal problem... So maybe it all comes down too some funny settings then (probably related to MIME types?).

Exactly! The only two other browsers I have are Netscape 4.77 and Opera 6. Netscape can't even display the attached images, and Opera can't even load Apolyton properly!

WinNT4-Netscape4.5 -- all attached images and custom avatars not viewable and cannot be captured -- except standard avatars, which are OK (eg in this thread, can only see Grrr's avatar).
WinNT4-IE5.5 -- all images display normally, normal capture/save
iMac-OS9.1 -- all images display and save normally

Why is there a SG[1] and a SG(2)?

Siro,
Can you just rename the extension? I have problems with the extensions sometimes, but the files themselves are intact.

When I uploaded the starting smilie for the pants on Fire smile (would someone please finish it!) It broke twice. I was uploading with IE6 using WIN98OSR2. Just an extra datum that might identify the problem.....

UR - I can't simply change the extention - it won't let me.
And if I do it manually it doesn't work... the file gets corrupted.
On the other hand, when I did "save page as - complete web page" I managed to retreieve that animated gifs in their real format.

Won't let you? I mean after you complete downloading the file.
But if you can view it as BMP, it probably *is* BMP. Strange.

Wait ~72hrs. for propogation of apolyton.net et al. If the problem persists, let us know; if it has been resolved, that's great. Even in the latter case we'll leave this thread open in case the problem arises again down the road...

ALL AVATARS, GRAPHICS, & ANIMATIONS IN THIS THREAD NOW VIEWABLE VIA NEW IMPROVED P4/LINIX SERVER !!! -- even on my Netscape 4.5/NT setup here at work.
WAY TO GO, APOLYTON !!!!
(But the Post Reply button gets 404. Quick reply works... DNS must still be waiting to propagate to the remote hinterlands of Chicago.)
Oh yeah -- nice avatar, Grrr.
