Freedom Force
Aaaargh! Another game that looks so awesome I'm not going to be able to resist it. Finally a Superheroes game has struggled onto the market. Next I'll discover a Judge Dredd RPG is being released and I'll have absolutely no choice but to clone myself to be able to find time to play them all

I downloaded the demo and I love it. I've already got it on pre-order from Amazon and can't wait to get my hands on the full product. One downside though: it seems that the developers didn't put in a skirmish mode which seems an astonishing oversight on their part. Still, I hear there are two patches coming up...one to fix some bugs and one to add features. I just hope they stick in a skirmish mode. Also there are loads of skins to download from freedom force centre.
UP UP AND AWAY!!!!

I've cracked and ordered the US version from software plus because the Uk version is still 6-8 weeks away. At least this way I can be fairly certain of getting a manual

I played it for a bit, I really liked the theme and style, but it's just not really my kind of game.
It did inspire me to try my hand at skinning, though.

Just picked it up, gonna install it now.
Had a tough choice between this one and Dungeon Siege. So I flipped a coin, and VOILA, I have Freedom Force.

Have had it for some time now, and I gotta tell you:
SP rocks, there's a great "Superhero" style story, dialects and so on. Tons of levels...It's just awsome...
MP sucks, there's only 6 MP levels, and most of them are just way to small to make a MP fight last long. Basicly it's just about to hit first, there's not much of a suprise there. Most of the MP maps are way dark, which makes it imposible to recognize an enenmy (or your own heroes) when hiding in shadows, which are all over the place...Also you have to create a new game after each fight, and you need to use gamespy (or know the IP of the people you want to fight against) to join/create a game...And because rightclicking pauses the game, there's a lot of pausing in MP...
Let's just hope the patches makes MP fun...

And btw, if you like this gae you might like the game www.cityofheroes.com
It's a game (not released yet) were you play a superhero living in an online city, were you all the time get a mission to kick some bad guys, and thereby gain powers (if you win ). I don't know how it all works, but it sounds cool...2 bad they require a monthy fee to be able to play the game

ADG: Your problem with MP maybe rectified once Irrational releases thier level editor. That may also have the secondary effect of spawning user made campaigns which would be awesome, IMO.

Does anyone know where I can find some custom characters for the game? I'm dying to try out a well done Marvel or DC character in the game.

There are alot of fansites that offer skins, there are some links to them on the official page under the " Delightful Design Center" section.
It's not a DC or Marvel superhero, but If you want I can post my "Johny Canuck" skin.

Osweld, I'll use Wolverine if I want a Canadian super hero.
One more question: Does anyone know how to enable the hidden characters in the game?

the "character creation tool" really isn't any sort of tool at all, it just allows you to preview a character outside of the game.
The skins you can download from fansites should only require you to put it into the right directory, in order to use them in the game.
I think that there are also skin/mesh creation forums at the official site which you could ask in.

It would be fun to play with the meshes a bit, if only aperson had time.
I wonder if gmax would work with it?

I can't remember exactly where but, somewhere out there, there is a very good Wolverine skin with its very own mesh which shows claws. You could try freedomforce centre for the skin/mesh. Failing that, you'd need to use something like the alpha mesh to build your own Wolverine(this mesh allows you to manipulate/add things like claws or the wings on Captain America's cowl etc.) If you want to learn how to use the character creation tool, the best thing to do is to check out the forums on the official freedom force site(some of them have also come up with a rudimentary skirmish mode there as well). There's a lot of good info there written by some very knowledgable folk.

Ok, I figured out how to get a Wolverine skin on a mesh. The only thing I need to figure out now is how to set his stats in game to approximate how he is in the comics. Does any sympathetic comic nerd want to help me?

Sure....
He won't have a range attack.
Somewhat high strength, average speed, average agility, super high endurance, average energy.
Attributes.
Berserker, Blitzkreg?, Claws, Danger Sense, Fast Healing, Grim Resolve, Rapid Metabolism ?, Shake it off, Solid Skeleton, Tough Guy, Unheroic ?,
I don't know how this will work, if a hero needs to be balanced or not, let me know what you think.

Loving the game. One word of caution - I suggest you play through the Sp campaign using only the built in characters first time around. I dabbled with making my own hero and my favourite allowed me to rip through quite a few missions too easily. Using the built in characters you actually have to think hard about what powers you want available and use your heroes efficiently to score victory.
I'm just hoping there are many more expansion packs on their way. Not for the same ever more powerful heroes but like HOMM each one starting from relative impotence and growing in power as they adventure (I like the early thug-bashing stuff perhaps more than the supertuff endgames...)

I hope so too, and then I hope they make it possible to not having to use certain characters in certain games. If they make every game free to choose a character, then they could easily make it a great game MP (If they could make the campaign avaliable in MP)...

I think they only wove certain characters in/out of the scenarios in order to keep the storyline working. For that reason I welcome it. Perhaps in FF 2 they might allow you to pick any custom character provided it had that voice/personality, but it still might prove too silly having a custom hulk-lookalike uttering Minuteman or Mentor's lines. Alchemiss's ability to close portals is not something you'd really want to bother purchasing, likewise Mentor's telepathically linking the whole team is something that only really works when scripted. I suppose an expansion could be designed to have the main characters busy at base or elsewhere and just talking to your custom heroes who are actually doing the job. That does make it trickier to build in events that require certain specific powers to counter.

Sure for SP it might be diffecult to make a good story (Which is needed in SP) by not doing it that way, but if they made a campaign in MP there's no need to have a story, nobody has time to read it anyway
