Do you use the editor?
In addition to my previous thread 18/04 "Should generally approved suggestions be defaulted in patches" it might help to have a better idea of the quantity of players who use editors and who don't. (might have been done long before but what the heck)
In the latest patch Firaxis has
edit: primarily focussed on improving the editor
Be aware though that the vast majority of CIV3-players (purchasers) don't frequent Apolyton (or other civ3 sites) yet.
I presume that most of them play unedited games.
A vote doesn't bare much effort, so please, feel invited to!
(otherwise only MOD's might vote )
Poll options:
1) PERFECTIONIST: definitely yes, can't do without
2) OPPORTUNIST: occasionally yes, but only if really needed
3) HANDICAPPED: I just might, but I'm not good at it
4) PURIST: (almost) never: I stick to the 100% official version
5) IGNORANT: bananas
Options 1,2: yes
3,5: neutral
4: no, for whatever other reasons
Let's provide Firaxis some ideas ...

Without massive editing of Civ III I would have stopped playing it in December.

I'll use the editor to edit the rules, civs, units, etc.
But since there's no minimap in the editor program as of yet, I won't be making maps until they do so.

I tried playing with the editor back before any patches, and it crashed every time, no matter what I changed .. so I gave up.
Looks like they have done some work on it, so I will give it a whirl again with 1.21f ... fingers crossed.
Maybe at last, I can set up a load of different Gov types .. has anybody sucessfully added any new govs yet ?

No. Neither rule changes nor mods, far from Sn00pys excellent graphics and some leader and cityname changes. I'm a default rule purist and corruption masochist .
Why is this a multichoice poll? For those who want to say yes and no in one answer?

Not yet. I have tried Marla's World Map mod.
I am thinking about doing a modification to the tech arrangement in the Modern Era after a game or two with the new patch. I think the Space Launch is too soon in the Era. I have NEVER built an Aegis Cruiser for instance.

I don't think I would have finished a single game if I could not have edited the rules.
PS : I don't get the multichoice idea. A single-choice poll would have had much more sense.

I've used the editor extensively, but I've just gone back to the default game to refresh my game with something more likely to be similar to MP.
The Viceroy
Dont quote me on this, but it seems like there was a difference between the UK and US versions ability to do some mods such as add units. I posted this problem simultaneously with the patch readme that outlined its fix. Since the US versions didnt have that problem (to the same extent) I can only conclude that they were made aware of it by complaints at the UK site. Hopefully its fixed with 1.21 (I'm testing tonight). I'll be adding more resources and units (with icons).

I used to use the editor, until I realized that CIV III is as yet unmodable (This is pre 1.21f). You can change several things, but it just creates prbolems and crashes (like the tech icons not matching up in the Civ-o-pedia and crashing if there is a 9th luxury resources when you click "city view").
I want to use the editor, and have an extensive scenatio that I have put in a notebook for completion later. What is really frustrating is the all I can do on the computer now is collect the graphics for the resources, make graphics for the units, and pen and pencil some thoughts about what each city would have. There's no way to play test it yet, because it can't be created with the editor yet (you can't even place a city on the map).
But on the bright side, it gets better with time and some ideas have gone by the wayside.
Still waiting for a fully functional editor though.

I love the editor and plays only with my modified rules. I modded the game in the same spirit as Player1 in his patch suggestion mod : some rules are modified, but nothing big is done, like adding new buildings etc.
Still, the game works differently, and for the better IMO (well I modded, so I did it in order to imrove the game for me )

Akka le Vil and Sir Ralph,
you're right, it shouldn't have been a multiple choice poll.
Guess I felt delighted that multiple choice polls are possible.
I'll try and fix this.
AJ
edit: I can't, it's mods only. Perhaps one of the mods ..?

Using the editor
I have never actually used the editor, but I cannot say that I am against it. My wife plays civ3 as much if not more than I do, though, and I don't want to have to explain all the changes I've made. She seems to like the game fine, so for now I have left well enough alone, installing only the patches released by Firaxis.
But, I'll probably perform a second install so I can muck with my very own copy and leave hers alone

Without the editor, I would have quit playing in mid Feb. I don't enjoy the game at all with default rules, but 1.21 is better than any of the previous versions. I don't make as many editor changes. I just wish I had an easy record of changes. Every time I patch, I forget one or two settings, and it takes a few games to get all my settings right.

Am I becoming jealous here?
I'm living together with my truely magnificent and lovely girlfriend and I love her .
But she's got two shortcomings:
1) she hates football (soccer), while I love Belgium and Anderlecht
2) she never plays games and she doesn't feel motivated to learn them
She lets me play as long as I wish though

I need the editor. Not to make it easier but to make it better to play at.
Such as, rescources don't appear or depleat, certain units get lethal bombard. I changed some of preferences to governments in some of the civs. Little things like that.

The editor allows you to activate another path which is actually just a bonus : culture !
There is building for military, building for science, but there is not a single building "culture-only".
Making purely-culture building would create a whole different way in the game.

Did you get a manual when you bought the game? Or did you not wonder what the second icon was in your folder or desktop?

Well....I suppose if I had time(two jobs) to read the manual, or if my puter wasn't so smart that it loads up the game when I put the disc in....I may have known.
