Latin and Now Greek for Dummies
Panag,
Can we assume that at least 2 of these are motto's for Spec Warfare Groups.
De Opresso Liber - is used by the Green Berets
O TOLMON NIKA - is used by the Greek commandos
Veritas Et Libertas - may be a corrupt version of Veritas vos liberabit (The truth will set you free.) (Versio Vulgata, Ioh. 8.32)
My favorite Latin Phrase is: Ultima ratio regum.
The last argument of kings.
(Inscription on French cannons in the times of Louis XIV.)

I think I may have read something about this a while ago, but I'm too lazy to sift through threads looking for it.
Anyway, while I was moving MY MechI into one of MY cities, suddenly the city began to defend as if I was attacking it! The MechI died. I continued to try and move other units into the city, but the friendly fire continued. Just to experiment, I then moved all defending units away from the city, and then tried to move into it. Remarkably nothing extraordinary happened, and the unit simply moved peacefully into the city.
I must say this was one wierd incident, and I have since abandoned that sav out of frustration.

I'm just courious... When you got that first one back in there... Did you try moving others in to see if that one you just moved in 'defended' the city? I've read somewhere where others have apparently experianced this bug too... Talk about Rebels! lol

As I recall, the attacks resumed once I moved one back into the empty city. Unfortunatly I can't locate the .sav right now, or I would post it. Hopefully I'll be able to find it so you guys don't think I'm just off my rocker.

Dear Folks,
I do not like the fact that with 1.21 you can no longer modify the rules and have the changes apply to the current game !
I've made hundreds of rule mods, and enjoyed doing so on the fly as problems/nonsense came up guring game play.
I believe this would be especially missed in multiplayer, as my previous experience is that agreed-upon changes to correct problems enhances gameplay, without having to start over!
JR
btw In case you're interested, most mods I've made are to enhance gameplay, especially in early rounds. Mods include increased tile resources, a greater spread between earlier and later unit abilities, Also MUCH harder to get new govt types...
I could go on & on, & perhaps I will if there is interest in discussing these types of rule mods. jr

Panag, what would I ever do without you? You are so incisive.
By the way, I have people looking for the 1rst and 3rd motto's with no luck. Where do they come from?

Res Non Verba is the motto for:
The 20th RAF Squadron
The 10th Mountain Division
Auckland Volunteer Coastguard Service
US Merchant Marines
22nd Infantry Battalion
North Carolina's Divisions during the Civil War
36th Infantry Division
French 143rd Field Artillery
1rst Brigade - Legion (Battletech)
Merrill's Marauders (1944)
Is the unit you got this from in the above list? IF not, I cannot find it.
The third is not:
Israeli, Russian, Dutch, German, American, Canadian, British, Australian,

Hint. It is a school motto for those needing special education (ooooh, that'll draw some napalm my way).
The fourth is the only non-US one, but it fits panag.

When using shift-J to move a bunch of units together, sometimes not all the units move at once. It is necessary to activate each already-activated unit to get them to move all at once. If left alone, they will move eventually, but it would be more logical to move them all immediately. I suspect this is because the units that are being moved are not automatically added to the head of the movement queue, and doing this will fix the problem.

Sound bug
The game has a tendency to repeat the same music track over and over, instead of moving on to the next track.

I don't know if this has been said before:
Sometimes when founding a new city, The game seems to halt. The city is formed, but I don't get the city-screen.
And after that I must activate every other unit in that turn manually because whenever a unit has used its movement the Active-unit-marker stays wiht that unit until I select a new unit. While in this odd mode the only way to move units is via the goto-function, and even then I can only move the units one tile at a time. Sometimes there is no reaction to the keyboard at all.
Also: All units set on goto or automate which hasn't moved before I found the city are skipped in that turn, because everything must be done manually!
When finally I have finished my turn and click End Turn I suddenly gets that new-city-window. And when quiting that screen the turn ends like ordered.
Next turn everything is ok again. Alltough this isn't a showstopper it is quite irritating and timeconsuming.

My comp specs are:
500 Mhz AMD K6-2
768 Mb ram
I don't think that matters because the game just halts. It dosn't progress even if I let it stand there for an hour and it is a somewhat rare thing. It happens in about one game out of three and then only in about one city-founding out of... well 5 or so (Not evenly distributed in time! It might all happen in ancient times).
I mod the rules a lot , so perhaps I am just hitting some odd "buttons" in those games, that goes a bit nut from time to time.

Very, very, minor bug:
If a nuclear meltdown occurs due to civil disorder in a city with a nuclear power plant, your domestic advisor notifies you with a pop-up that presents you with 2 choices: (1) Zoom to the city; or (2) OK, we'll just have to deal with it (something to that effect -- essentially, ignore it and get on with the game). Clicking on "Zoom to the city" does not zoom you to the city -- you must manually go back and find it (not hard to do with the pollution). Clicking on the "ignore it" button zooms you to the city.

Can you post details of your mods? What size map are you playing?
I get somewhat similar problems, I also mod the rules, and I have the same processor and speed. My problem happens when I move units, and the problem goes away after a few minutes.

Just in case Firaxians are checking here, I have described a bug related to keeping track of who is at war with whom when a civilization is destroyed in the separate thread:
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=54597
There is a file download that allows easy reproduction.

help
I have happily run Civ III for months, including early this morning. This afternoon, the game tells me it can't find the CD. I only have one. I've uninstalled and re-installed. I've tried it with and without the latest patch. I get a little box telling me it can't find the CD, to re-insert it, click OK and start the program again. Which gives me the same box. Only thing different is that I installed Frontpage.
Ideas? Thanks in advance.
