Aqueduct question?
I need a clarification of the aqueduct rule. Does the city need to be founded directly on top of the river or can the river be within one tile of the city in order to receive the benefits of the river?
Aqueduct: a city with an Aqueduct can grow beyond population six.
Note that a city adjacent to fresh water never requires and aqueduct.
adjacent (e-jâ´sent) adjective
1.Close to; lying near: adjacent cities.
2.Next to; adjoining: adjacent garden plots.
[img][/img]
The city in this picture requires an aqueduct.
I seem to remember that in my previous games the rivers only needed to be within one tile. Was I tripping?

The city needs to be in a tile with a river forming the border of that tile. Or in a tile adjacent to a lake (Coastal terrain but inaccessible to the Ocean).

Thanks for the response. Is this a new thing with the 1.21f patch?

Can anyone see the image I posted?
Thanks for answering the question. I was pretty sure of the answer anyway. I just could have sworn the rule was not implemented like that before. I was wrong. I guess I like to remember things the way I want to, not necessarily the way they happened.

I don't know. I can see it if I view your profile, so I don't know what's up with it.

Firstly MosesPresley, attach the image using the attach image option just below where you reply (full reply, not quick reply).
Do NOT link to your local hard-drive!
notyoueither: Your avatar is fine for me. Not sure if you've since 'fixed' it or there is a problem with Grrr!!'s browser, but I can see it fine.

new server?
Since the thread has already evolved somewhat off topic and since the primary question's been answered ...
Anyone else notices change(s) with the new Apolyton server?
At least, that's what I think has changed:
opening my mailbox to check the latest (Apo) messages, the direct link to the specific thread doesn't function anymore. Instead there's a note:
vBulletin Message
If you see this message, then you dns server is sending you to our old location.
However you should be able to access the forums on the new server with this link!
Will this be fixed?
Need I to implement some fixes?
AJ

AJ, after you "click" on the new server link, save the new page to your favorites and delete the old server page from your computer. This is what I did and it works fine now.

As a reply to the original thread-topic, I find it sometimes a little difficult to see where I can put a city to have the aqueduct benefit. When I was a newbee, I thought that was the same rules as placing irrigation, that it worked also diagonally. The dwindling meanders of rivers could also be a little bit hard to follow, especially in hilly areas.
And as a reply to the other thread-topic, I can´t see the attached image but I can see nye's nice avatar. Groarrh...

Exactly the same.
To complete AJ's question, I also noticed that some links do not function anymore. I can not get out of the forums.
MarkG, has the whole site been completely moved ?

It's good practice to right-click for terrain info before settling. If the info lists at least 1 gold more than that tile's default, it counts as adjacent to a river.
Sadly, the map gets confused by more than one river edge. If you have a river on 2 or 3 sides of a tile, you'll probably need an acqueduct.

Thanks for all the help. I deleted the image since I don't have a website. I thought it was successfully uploaded, because I could see it. DOH!

Yes - I was puzzled for several games by needing an acqueduct in such a city. I haven't checked closely enough to know under exactly what conditions the acqueduct is still needed. Checking before settling works every time, tho.
