Well, you could not read it the other way around. If it was Julius-Smash / Mighty-mouse vs Superman, I would have said I was pleased to be a mighty-mouse.

I still havn't forgiven them for stealing OUR gold medal in Nagano

If only my countrymen could learn how to use a soccer ball

I can't beleive Senegal today!..what a great day for that country.

Well, I thought the Canadians lost to the Czech in Nagano, was it not in Lillehammer in 1994, a Forsberg goal on penalty shooting

Canadians do play soccer they've just beaten Switzerland 3-1 in a friendly, but then the Swiss are not the best at soccer either.

Yes, great for Senegal, and a lesson for those arrogant french players (I hope Lafayette isn't reading this thread )

oh yes,Lillehammer .
See?..its still fresh in my memory.

We do play a fair bit of soccer here but we lack a good national league and strong competition. Its doesn't help that most of our youngsters grow up wanting to play hockey.Soccer just doesn't catch on in North America.Only place in the world

and..losing to us is not a good thing. Not even in a freindly. Was it actually a men's team?..maybe Swiss football is in an even worse state of affairs than Canada?

Hmmm,I was sure you would play c4 straight away.No matter I spose.

I don’t mean it is won for me, I only said that 40 ... c4 was not that strong, because after that, I want to take on h5 anyway (no backward pawn on an open g-file) and you may play Rb4, blockading my attack. So gxh5 first, then Rg1 for you and c4 for me. c4 and b4 and the right moment are the key to find an edge.
I think that 39 Bb3 was weak, but white was in a sort of Zugzwang ... Maybe 39 Ke1 was the best.

The problem with h5 is eventually I have to stop 2 pawns while I only can stop one.If I had looked more thoroughly I would have seen.I thought I could make some complications while staying safe.Apparently I was on glue or something

Yes 39 is pointless at least.I was going to play Kg3..but .But if I could do over, I would go all the way back to #14 as I posted earlier and keep going with 14 Nf3.I was just too chicken to stay complicated

My overall plan was flawed now that I consider it.You are a French Defense player.French players willingly accept cramped, defensive, one may even say indignant, positions steering for endgames with slight advantage. Not too mention I suspect you are very higly rated based on my own previous ratings

but...

I should have played 41 ... b4 then, I think. It would be better than the game, but still very pleasant for me. Your right that my h-pawns might prove deadly. As I said, it was almost Zugzwang, the king couldn't go to g3 because of risks of missing the action on the queenside.

36 Bd1, 37 Ba4, 39 Bb3, 41 Bc2 couldn't be that great anyway.

Maybe that you should just try to play the best moves, without thinking too much about my psychological side. I also played the open game a lot, and some sicilian too. I'm not a die-hard french player. Neither was I that high rated.

Well thats just the thing isn't it?...trying and doing are 2 different things. While I certainly feel some discouragement,I remain defiant

I think I need an overall plan before engaging a skilled foe.It is my psychological side that has me worried

..and I don't beleive you about not being that high in rating.I spose it depends on the crowd you associate and play with.

Yes, c'mon Julius, give us your rating please. I would say somewhere in the range 2200-2300, true or false?
