Need to buy Civilization 1
Hi Civilization 1 fans, I bought a discounted demo version of Civ 1 from a store and found I could not save games with it. Truly a bummeroo. Does anyone know where I can buy a Civ 1 so I can play my favourite game and take over the world when I please?

I checked out theunderdogs.org and can see no listing to download computer games. Suppose I should try again.
DL suspicions? I really did buy the game, it was $2, I got what I paid for.
What should I click on?

I looked on abandongames.com, and all the links they have point to sites that have taken the game down so you can't download it... stupid ISDA...

The site moved to http://www.the-underdogs.org (note the hyphen)... But even so, Civ1 is no longer available for download over there.
And downloading legally simply because of age really isn't that simple. It may be acceptable to the majority, but that doesn't make it legal. At least one other abandonware site has it listed, but not available for download due to copyright protection.

Double login, that's not me. I am totally new to this forum. Computers have created acronym mania - chcam.
But I need Civ 1 so because I bought Civ 2 and it is awful, I can't play it. The view of it pains me.

Why not try MOM? It has similar gameplay and graphics to Civ 1, and can be downloaded.
Just a suggestion, AH.

but why not just get civ3/2?
Civ1 is so old. you are really far behind. I doubt ACS even has a Civ1 section.

You can email me, my address is solver@apolyton.net (d'oh), and if you do, I'll send you out the Civ 1 installation, rather small.

You can buy the original Civilization for £4.99 from Crucial Entertainment. Based the United Kingdom, the company ships to most international destinations.

Are they sure about the requirements? I remember playing Civ1 on a 486 33 MHz, 4 MB RAM, but that was the DOS version... Still I don't think the Windows version would require another 100 MHz.

I know that, but I don't know if they can answer, so I passed the question to the community. I guess that someone has played the Windows verion of Civ1, and wknows what computer he/she were playing on.

Thanks Gramphos, I went to crucialstore.com they had the game and I bought it. Since this is cyberspace, I expect to hear it plop through my mailbox in about fifteen minutes.
So, does anyone think Brazil will win a fifth World Cup in soccer in Korea-Japan in one month? You know, South America has won nine World Cups championships, two more than Europe.

Yes, how churlish of me, I wish to thank Dan and all the Civ1-2-3 fans out there that helped me find Civ1. This internet thingy is quite cool, it greatly assists us lagging edge sub-technologists.

I played WinCiv on a 486 DX 2/50 4mb Ram (I think), FWIW.
I no longer have the box, but while the readme doesn't mention the processor, it does require: 4mb ram and 4mb swap file.

That's a bit primitive
I used an IBM win 3.1 system... Can't remember the speed, but it was VGA. 1994 was the first time I played Civ I. Then in 1996 I first played Civ II. 1999 or 1998- CTP.

Me, I'd like to see an African country win the World Cup this year. That would be exciting. Spread the soccer wealth acround.

I'd also like to see that, but I'm afraid France and Argentina are just too strong. One of them will win.

I have it. Better graphics - but you have to use your mouse more often (very annoying). It also runs slower on my comp compared to Civ1.
I think I downloaded it from the underdogs a long time ago (or possibly from one of million abandonware sites).

I'm still playing civ1 on an Amiga 500 with half a meg RAM and 14 Mhz processor, and I've got through 4 copies of the floppies, but when I can get a new set for the same price as buying Amiga discs these days... 10 long years of civ ! May it be played forever
