After invading Warsaw and being repulsed, the UK was invaded by Bulgaria. And Belgium as well, which seems to act as sort of a global policeman. Shortly thereafter, Russia invaded Japan, and France invaded Germany.

Sounds like fun, though!
I just hate games that sound so good in previews and turn out so bad on your PC.

I know it's not the best thing to go off of when judging a game, but I first had doubts after having browsed the game site for about a minute--I saw that the five resources were something like ores, energy, technology, grain, and meat. Grain and meat? What the hell kind of resources are those??? Call them "food" and be done with it.

Yeah, as I said, shades of Outpost and Battlecruiser.
Both are games that garnered laurels during previews, but turned out to be duds when finally released.
Both were fixed subsequently by patches. Derek Smart should also be lauded for his efforts in singlehandedly supporting Battlecruiser. The damage had already been done, however.
Since than, I have mild aversions to games that sound too good in previews. The reality usually has a hard time living up to the hype.

Since Civ 3, I have decided to wait until a game has been released for a while before even considering it. Then once I'm potentially interested, to research it to see what fans are saying about it.
I haven't bought a game since...

Unfortuantely the games that promise to have much freedom and many options usually become disappointments. Superpower seems to be one of those as well as Black & White.
Games that could suffer the same fate are Republic and Freelancer, both promise a lot, especially Republic but will they be fun to play? I hope so, they allready look so promising...

The question is, can they survive the contact with reality?

While it has very realistic graphics, there is too much micromanagement in reality, one game seems to last a lifetime and there is no quicksave function. Where's the patch?

LOL. That thread wasn't exactly a shining moment for me eh?
Yeah from what I have followed Superpower seems a real turkey. However some of the regulars at the golemlabs forum seem to think it's salvageable with a few patches
I still think it is a great concept and Superpower 2 may well be live up to the promise.

Not true. I bought Battlecruiser a year or two ago, and it would never run.
