'Bout time they "officially" announced it. Looking to be quite nice.

I have never played sim city before, but have always wanted to. Is the old game on freeware or anything? I was going to buy simcity 3000 but never did. I would probably get bored too quickly like I did of the Sims. But I still want to try.

You can play the original SimCity online at www.simcity.com
under the "Classic Live" link.
Just need to sign up for the site.
The others can probably be gotten very cheaply.

"SimCity 2 and SimCity 3000 have basically been elaborate revisions of the first game," said Maxis producer Kevin Hogan. "We're doing more than just giving SimCity 4 an updated look."
|
didn't they say something like that about civ3? that it would be totally new and everything

First, you're no longer limited to building on flat ground. Small houses and office buildings can be constructed on sloped terrain, and you'll be able to see the angled foundations underneath those structures.
|
finally
overal it looks good, nice changes, for example you can now build bridges over canyones
but i wonder how the industry will work...

I loved the original SimCity and enjoyed SimCity 2000. I never could get into SimCity 3000 because it was too much the same. So I would like to ask a couple questions of things that I always wanted in the game and am not sure if they appeared in 3k.
1. Are there toll roads? Payments for bus service? A way to make money off of city municipalities?
I always wanted this option. Another way to make income, at the cost of less pop happiness.
2. Was there tourism?
3. Was it as hard to build a power plant as it was in SimCity 2k?
4. Was it as fun as the original?
I guess these are my concerns for SimCity4. But I am glad Maxis is returning to this classic. Now, if they would make another SimTower, I loved that game...

Maxis better make this game simple to play...I hate having too many decisions to make in these games.

The original one was very good. Innovate, as it were. The sequels so far, hm, nah.

It sure does look promising.
I bought SimCity3000 and I'm not sorry, it's a great game (although it really is too similar to SC2000). But I don't mind that because the graphics were much better and it seems as that SimCity 4 won't disappoint me either.

I liked SimCity 2000 better than the original. 3000 was just an updated graphic set.

Arcologies ? I really hated those. To the end, my city was nothing but SpaceArchologies , Fusion Powerstations, and a sqare with altering water/pump rows.
The 3000 has WAY more land. I'd really like that it would have more land , plus , more exact zoning , like : casino, commercial distict, etc. or at least more levels of zoning , such as sky scrapers. and I mean HIGH , not those little silver towers.

I like the look of it so far. The volcano's a nice touch.
My only real request is that they give us more room for building. Unlimited map sizes would be ideal, but I'd settle for less than that (say, 1024x1024).

Let us just hope they don't bring those arcologies back...Unless, they make something really special of it, so it doesn't end up with a city of only arcologies!
And those pumps...I hope they do something new to them, cuz it was annoying to use almost all beaches just to get enough water to the city

I did that all time...But I have always been wondering, were do they get all that water? Nomatter how "much" water I had, whenever I was trying to sell some of my excess water I always got a fine the next month, because I didn't have enough water...And yes, I had more than enough, because I tried once to just make a city of waterpumps/towers, meaning I had just way to much water, but still I couldn't sell enough???

I think you haven't quite realized the fact the pumps must be almost at the level of the river water for it to work.
coz I've used to support a 1mil sized city with 3-5 pumping areas , with around 10-18 pumps at each. and it worked just fiiine.

Strange, cuz I did that, but still with 50 pumps as close to water as possible, it wasn't enough
And yes, I remembered to make sure there were pipes connected to them

Looks good. SimCity 3000 was a very satisfying game, though. I wonder if SC4 isn't gonna be like the WarCraft Battle Chest, which was effectively the same game with different maps, a couple of new screens, and other nominal changes. If it is, I'll stick with what I know and love.
